Considering getting Daggerfall.

Extremely minimal. Cavemen had more computer knowledge than me. Should that affect my decision?

It takes some more work than the average game install, but everything is clearly explained http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=479044 so it shouldn't be a problem.

I find that patience and the ability to follow instructions are more important than any actual knowledge, but it certainly does help!

First, MW's graphics were nowhere near "dire." Second, if that combat was bad, it was due to player fault, not anything to do with the game.

Daggerfall is very much like Morrowind, but it has the stupidity taken out of it.

Where's a Geico Commercial when you need one? Oh wait, those ads died long ago...

Anyway, speaking as a TES gamer who loves Oblivion and Daggerfall, but dislikes Morrowind and Arena, I say try out the demo as well, to everyone in a similar situation.

The dated graphics have an odd effect on my perception of the gameworld that Morrowind's dated graphics do not (the "cartoony" graphics effect) It does leave more up to be filled in by the imagination. The combat system I find preferable to Morrowind's because it has a greater range of animation, even if it does force me to lock my view, and the best archery system of all games (except for the inability to recover targetless arrows)

I also like how it gives the MQ in an "Open invitation" manner, rather than forcing it down the player's throat (Oblivion) or being told to [censored] off because you're not a high enough level (Morrowind. I really hate that Caius Cosades guy)

I also like how the races are more cosmetic than anything else (though I wish racial modifiers were applied to the stat roll) and how versitile the class creation system is. I find Morrowind and Oblivion's horrible with the excessive limitations. (What is your specialty: Combat, Stealth or Magic? Why can't I chose to be an equal blend of Combat and Stealth, or Stealth and Magic? And the "Primary Attributes" thing is also poorly implemented.)

I could never play Daggerfall with those terrible graphics.

When I found aot about that demo I instantly downloaded, and started it, but I have a problem:
When the game starts, first it's the "Bethestda Softworks Present: TES: II Daggerfall" thing, and when that's done I come to the star menu, there the problem starts: A black block appears around where the mouse was the last second before the menu appeared, and clicking does not work, I can move the cursor, but can't do anything :(

It's the "Lock the mouse" thing?

Yep. CTRL+F10 should fix that right up.

Maybe someday I'll update that demo package with DOSbox 0.72.
0.70 is fine but I never have this "doesn't autolock the mouse" problem with 0.72. Ah well.

Actually, Daggerfall is the one program that DOSBox 0.72 doesn't autolock the mouse for. No idea why. Just clicking in the window in other games (even Arena) will lock it.

It's not that big a deal, but it's a pain when I'm alt+tabbing to access a chat window with a friend or something.
