[RELZ] PipBoy Be Gone

PipBoy Be Gone

UPDATE:
Hotkey equipping armor loads in the missing mesh for the arm, seems to work permanently after one equip, the menu works and the PipBoy stays invisible. Thanks to Quarn for making me go find an alternative method.

IMPORTANT!
This mod needs FOSE(Download: http://fose.silverlock.org/ Forum: http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=928358)

What it does:
My first mod. It's very simple really, it just removes the PipBoy from 1st and 3rd person views, it's still there when you open the menu though so you shouldn't have any problems, so long as your menu key is TAB(this will be fixed in later versions).

Conflicts:
It will NOT work well with a new game, load after leaving vault 101 to be safe.

Please see TOP this mod needs FOSE to work properly.

Some clothing has a malformed or missing segment where the PipBoy should be, I'll hopefully get to fix the clothing myself and will update this mod with the modified files.

If you see any clothing/armor that has this issue let me know on the forum so I can try and fix it.

Legal:
Do what you like with it just let me know please.

Go ahead and release as a beta if the "beta" status of FOSE is the only thing keeping you from "publishing" it.

EDIT: Unquoted the OP

The onoly thing better than this is replacing the pip boy with the watch from 007 Goldeneye.

I figure that if you don't see the PipBoy other than in the menu then creating new designs should pretty straight forward. I was messing around in PS with an idea, but I don't know if it's even possible.

Heh funny, I actually made a mod with this exact name and idea a while ago but never released it since I was waiting for FOSE to have the ability to get the currently equipped armor ref so you could unequip/reequip the armor and avoid the segment of missing armor on the arm.

Quarn, it seems some of the armors have a missing area in the nif specially for the PipBoy. Re-equipping wouldn't help.

Can the player not be given the version of clothing worn by NPCs instead? I do think it's a bit absurd that, even when wearing pyjamas, my character refuses to take off his pipboy...

Would it be possible to make it an optional thing, so that it can be taken on and off like any other piece of clothing?

Did you even bother checking all the armor/clothing suits? They all contain full meshes, nothing cut out for the Pip-Boy, the Pip-Boy actually removes a section of the equipped armor/clothing suit when it is equipped and the removed section won't appear back until the armor/clothing suit is re-equipped (when the Pip-Boy is unequipped).

Edit: slight correction, the nifs do contain parts of what the armor should look like with and without the Pip-Boy being equipped but the downsides to disabling those parts and always having the full suit are too great...

Did you try the mod? My mod does just that, it automatically equips and unequips the pipboy as needed, the meshes don't update whether you equip the same armor, new armor or run around nekked, I tried making the pipboy playable, so you could take it on and off at will but that didn't make any difference.

I'm thinking that there is a flag somewhere that switches the nifs for the player and other NPCs, but I don't really know, this is my first mod, it's just something I thought I'd try and the immediate issues became apparent.

I'd like to think that at some point the PipBoy will become an item of clothing with various models, colours and features, but it took a couple of years for Oblviion to sorted out so I think we just have to keep an eye out for possibilities.

I'd like to see the screen from the Pipboy full screen with nothing else surrounding it.

Like the inventory menus and such, that would be ideal, I feel there's a lot of space wasted in the current menu with the viewing area being so small.

The armor/clothing suit nifs contain specially named blocks to control what is displayed/isn't displayed when the Pip-Boy is equipped/unequipped. When the Pip-Boy is equipped it will hide blocks in the nif and show others but when the Pip_boy is unequipped those hidden blocks won't come back untill the armor/clothing suit is unequipped and re-equipped.

What I'm trying to say is you'd be better off waiting until FOSE can get the currently equiped item and simply unequip/re-equip the armor/clothing suit so you don't end up with the missing section of armor/clothing on your arm. Or you could script checks for every armor/clothing suit that exsists but the downside to that is it will only work on the standard Fallout 3 items, custom armor/clothing suits will be missing parts still.

Thanks Quarn, you actually ticked me off so I went off and had a mess around, I found that it can be done if you hotkey equip the armor just once, the PipBoy stays away but the missing mesh loads up just fine and the menu continues to work OP updated with credit where it's due of course :P
