Combat System

I'm a huge fan of the TES series as I'm sure most people on these forums are. With that said, I think they need to completely revamp the combat system. It almost seems like an after thought compared to all the other little details they put in the game. What do you guys think?

They most likely will, since they are rebuilding the rest of the engine.

I always wondered what the game would be like if it had a more Assassin's Creed-like combat system.

Obviously I'm only talking about the melee fighting, not the hidden blades and shooting style of AC, but a more fluid melee striking and blocking system, counter attacks, chain strikes, and some cool animations for the killstrikes.

It doesn't have to be exactly like Assasin's Creed does their system because well we're not trained Assassins necessarilyin TES

In fact it couldn't be exactly like AC because they would have to tweak it up a bit to include a shield and block if you wanted to use one handers but it could basically be the same if you went shieldless or two handed with big sword, poles, or axe.

I don't know if any of you here played Assassin's Creed Brotherhood but throwing the axe end over end and killing a guard is one of my favorite combat moves in any game, ever!

And this would only effect melee, not archer or mage styles...

What do you think?

Wouldn't it be great if the AI was competent in changing it's tactics to adjust to your actions? If your companion is dishing out and taking all the damage while you are healing and buffing them then I would love for their mage to try to hit me with a silence spell. If we both have slow two-handed melee weapons then they switch to arrows and range us. Their warriors should bash us with their shields while their scouts try to backstab us. They work as a team, not individuals. And when they've lost enough men and morale the rest of them should consider fleeing to an enemy camp.

Here are my complaints about Oblivion combat that needs improvement in Skyrim:

1. Archers didn't target and fire as fast as they could.
2. They took too long deciding when to switch to melee.
3. Melee foes that couldn't reach your position didn't retreat, but let you range them to death.
4. Foes did not use their racial abilities.
5. Melee hostiles would let you sneak range them to death because they couldn't see you and forgot you shot them moments earlier.
6. Spellcaster baddies did not do spell combos.
7. They also did not send fireballs your way as quickly as they could cast.
8. Khaajits could not see you in the dark because they did not use their powers.
9. No one used torches in their dark hideouts.
10. Fleeing simply meant that they ran into another room to cower and wait for you to finish them off.
11. They couldn't unlock doors in their own territory to get to you and modding it to happen was never successful.
12. They didn't call for help or send someone to get the boss when there was trouble.
13. No teamwork.
14. They did not patrol their territory, but stood around waiting for nothing.
15. You would find potions on their dead bodies because they did not use them to save themselves.
16. Foes did not have signs. When was the last time a Lover sign gave you the paralysis kiss? Never.
17. No dirty fighting.
18. When you were knocked down they were just as likely to attack as they were to not attack.
19. No one ever sneak attacked you because you could see them always, this must change.
20. They didn't know their own traps and you could capitalize on this.
21. Shield users did not block your arrows with their shields where you could block arrows with your knife.
22. All their combat moves were chance based.

ugh.......i hated assassins creed combat. leave aside the problem of being able to kill guard after guard after guard with finishing move after finishing move after finishing move. long finishing moves should be non existent. dark messiah had finishing moves like when you did a sneak attack with the daggers but they were short and sweat and you were back in action in seconds. i could go to the bathroom and come back in assassins creed just in time to see him complete his finishing move. i remember one time i forgot to pause my game when my girlfriend called and i had to listen to her yammer on and on (girls like to talk alot) and then i forgot i had my game on and i went to the grocery store and ended up meeting an old buddy of mine and we went out for lunch and then i got home and made some dinner. anyways, as i went to go back to my PC i remembered that i left my game running......i fully expected to see the reload screen or the camera doing its whirl around the dead body effect but my killing animation was still in progress and i even had to wait a bit more for it to finish. seriously, that is waaaaaay to long for a finishing move.

LOLOLOLOL! Awesome! I personally don't have a problem with the AC combat system, however I don't know how I would feel if it were implemented in TES. With that said, I do think games like AC or even the Fable series, have more of a dynamic combat system.
