Smooth SMART?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:36 pm

While watching Brink's http://www.gametrailers.com/video/pax-10-brink/705430 I noticed that when the player "Jolly" goes to use the SMART system to get over a wall (around 2:40-2:45) getting over the wall does not seem like a very smooth action. Instead of seamlessly getting up and over the wall "Jolly" seems to run up to the box, stop, climb on to it, run up to the wall, stop and then climb over that.

Now I don't know if this is because of the body type being played (we never learn that bit of information and i assume it's medium) or if it's because this is still an alpha version, or if this is simply designed in to make mastering SMART manually more lucrative, however it seems like since SD has emphasized the smoothness of getting around using SMART the climbing and vaults should be, well, smoother.

Thoughts? Rationalizations? Possible explanations?

i did notice that, perhaps it's because he hadn't picked up speed yet? last time i saw someone crawl over there, he went back a bit to have a running start, went a lot smoother

Holding down the SMART button will give a slight delay. Doing things skillfully by manually using crouch, sprint and jump is rewarded. This has been stated many times in interviews.

Notice the first jump is done via the SMART button and the second is done manually

If you're interested, here's a discussion of what the SMART button will and wont do versus manual use around four fifths of the way through this interview

im just happy that i can climb over the boxes, and maybe thats one of the advantages of a body type that they added, perhaps if he had been playing as a light he wouldnt have had a delay, but wtf do i know. Like i said, just happy that i can climb over the boxes

well there can be many reasons for that. For one he had next to now speed because he stoped right infront of it then went up which could make it longer and also he was playing medium and they said that the medium body type can climb up things from hes for head so since it was kinda high for a medium it could of also delayed him a bit.
