Oh, and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTUQKby8PKo + some strategy is fun, too.

I also love to crush my enemies with an Ice Avalanche spell (combines Frost Damage + damage from fallen rocks).

soul trap. nothing beats destroying a guard with a high level elemental spell, with a short duration soul trap, combined with dark soul gems

Summon Faded Wraith (yes it's an effect)
Nothing as funny as a powerful summon at low levels!

Also, Fortify Attribute: Speed on animals.
See a bear in the mountains, and don't want to chew through 300-800 health? Fortify its speed by 100 and when it charges at you, it will fly off the mountain and go splat. Fortify your horse's speed for extremely fast travel. Fortify a summoned lich's speed to make them move as fast as NPCs.

Command 25pts on legionaires - a swordwielding pet ten levels higher than you? yes please :D

I have a spell that cost like 750 Magicka on my Mage in Oblivion, it's 100% vulnerability to all magic schools for 10 seconds, and 100 points of damage for all all schools. It pretty much one shots everything in the game. :)

For anyone who's on PC, I can't praise this mod enough -- http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3821%29. That's some of the most fun I've ever had with this game.

So I came to this tread, thinking I'd pick up a couple of spell tips for my new Breton character. Wow, did I ever! That is so freakin' funny I just about wet myself laughing at it.

Insane Hercules is just too much .... literally. :)

From a mod less annoying magic I believe are a few tactical spells, Vaccum pulls targets toward you and places them on the ground.
Its a good way to get at archers and break close knit formations combind with summons, plus is cheaper and more reliable than paralysis.
Wind blow is the opposite and shoves characters which makes lava lakes in Oblivion your best friend.
And for an atronach character you have an ancestor spirit which when clicked heals and regenerates a fair ammount of magicka, useless in combat but a life / time saver when trecking around.

A really strong shock spell. Kill a character and they go flying. Love watching the ragdoll effect while electricity flows over them.

I usualy play as a mage character so I use most magic affects quite regularly. Of all of them I think I use shield the most. Next would probably be restore health. As useful as these are though they aren't very interesting. The spells that I always miss when I don't have them are Detect Life and Telekinesis. Detect life if invaluable for searching caves and ruins as well as for stealthful infiltration of houses and castles and such. If there's as guard patroling the hall behind the door in front of you, you can cast detect life to seen when he's wanking in the opposite direction so you can know when to make your move. And telekinesis is just fun! I never miss feather because I ALWAYS have it. No matter what!

Absorb spells + invisibility allows to absorb magicka, health and fatique while turing invisble at the same to so enemies wont be able to attack

Demorize + fortify speed its fun watching enemies running away from you at like 100 mph

As a major defensive player, I play a lot of thieves, rogues, and assassins.
Illusion is by far the most useful.
Followed by Alteration for Feather.
