TES V Ideas and Suggestions #155

To be perfectly honest with you, wolves and bears (the ones featured in oblivion) would almost NEVER attack a human, even during mideval times. The only bears that would attack more often (not nearly all the time though) would be brown bears and polar bears. And while there are a lot less of them around today than there were back then that argument is actually completely flawed. While the population numbers are down humans have been encroaching on their habitat so much that the animals have come into contact with humans more frequently.
Bears are scavengers and wolves are opportunists (feeding only on much smaller creatures, or sick or wounded animals, NOT HUMANS (maybe a baby)) and more than that they only actually hunt when they have to. Bears nowadays eat trash left over by tourists or even venture into town to find a dumpster. In medival times they stuck to their own food rich environment for the most part, so bears would seldom ever approach a human out of hunger or intent to cause harm, they would much rather flee back into the food rich wilderness and not risk getting hurt.

I didn't mention mountain lions, but they too are opportunists, they won't attack a human unless they are defending themselves or retardedly hungry.

I know its a game but if people want better AI, better graphics, cooler environments then the wildlife would be more likely to act like they are supposed to. One would think

I would actually say we are encroaching on animals territory much less than we have in the past, because there is less of it now than there ever was, and we've pushed the animals to places we don't expand, such as parks and states with low population density. I would agree that bears are not as likely to "hunt" humans, although as you said, polar bears have historically been an exception to that. However, bears are highly territorial, especially mothers with cubs. So perhaps the game could reflect this with bears being neutral at a closer distance than say, and ogre, who is always hostile.

Wolves are actually very successful hunters, and the size of prey they take down is largely correlated to the size of the pack involved in the hunt. Individual wolves may only hunt rabbits, woodchucks, etc, packs of 5-10 usually attack deer, packs of 10-20 will attack larger ungulates such as elk, moose, and finally bison. Whether wolves target sick or elderly individuals is a matter for debate, as maybe they are simply more likely to be caught to begin with.

Mountain lions have been known to stalk and kill humans, BUT as they attack singly, they are much more likely to attack children or advlts of smaller frame. African lions however, are roughly 4 times the size, and there are literally hundreds of accounts of African lions hunting and attacking humans. Sometimes it is because they are ill, but other times it is not so well defined. Look up "refugees attacked by lions in national parks/preserves."

My whole point is that I do want a more realistic game. Bears, lions, and wolves, should not all charge the player singly from the same "aggro" distance and attack until dead. Bears should allow you to come closer, although will attack you if you come too close, or attack them first, and will probably fight to the death. Lions will stalk you, but will generally flee after being wounded. Wolves will attack in groups, and may break off the attack after 1 or 2 wolves have been killed, maybe even an "alpha wolf" could be designated.

I can't even begin to tell you of the hours I have wasted trying to get those god damnned swords into those displays you taunt me with on those castle walls!!!

Once an object has been grabbed ahold of by the character, the player should be able to control it just like how one could both translate and rotate an object in the construction kit.
