Fallout crashing since DLC was installed

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:09 pm

Hey everybody,

I recently bought Fallout 3, installed it, and has been running fine, love the game. I use Windows Vista SP2 compatibility and run as administrator. I installed the new DLC, (all the levels included in the Game of the Year version). Now I can't load the game, I open it up, go to run it, it goes full screen, loads a second then crashes with "Fallout3 has stopped working". I'm pretty sure when I installed the game, it installed the v1.1 patch, now if I try to reinstall the patch, or try to install the v1.7 patch, it also crashes when trying to load the game. I have all updated graphics and audio drivers, will list my system stats below. I'll also say again that the game worked great until this morning when I installed the DLC.

System Info:

Intel Core i7 930 quad-core
12GB DDR3 1366Mhz
1TB Sata HDD
ATI Radeon HD 4850 Dual DVI (Using 2 monitors 24" LCD and 20" LCD) - Latest drivers installed.
Windows 7 x64 (Currently up to date)
Realtek HD Audio (Latest drivers installed)
Headset plugged in to prevent any audio issues. (Some games require.)

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

I though the GotY came with the 1.7 patch. That's the one you need. Also you might have to update GFWL. Someone here has the link. It's a known cause to make the game unstartable and I've had that myself

I think GFWL is current. Was just installed early this week. I'll check it again though as well as any windows updates that may be screwing with it. My fear is maybe the esm or exe file was damaged during a failed patch, and I don't want to lose what I have done already by reinstalling.

Just reinstalled LIVE, installed various windows updates, game still not working, also not working after applying either patch 1.1 or 1.7. That's the best I know to do right now.

Did you reinstall LIVE from the disc or did you get it of the internet? Because the one of the disc ain't up to date and the patch doesn't cover it

I don't have a disc. I used direct2drive to get the game. Also, I installed LIVE from microsoft's website.

I uninstalled the game and reinstalled. This time, I backed up the fallout3.exe and .esm files before each patch install and ran the game after each step. Once I did this, I figured out that the v1.7 patch is what is breaking it. It works fine with v1.1.

Bump... Still a problem. Have reverted to running the app without the DLC or v1.7 patch for the time being, but would like to see a fix, solution, or just help getting this working so i can use the extras in the near future.

Thanks
