Choice between two systems

I'm getting the option to change the computer I play oblivion on. Currently I'm running on a 32-bit Laptop with 4mb ram, an intel centrino 2 processor with 2.17 ghz and a ATI hd mobility raedon 3650. It runs like a medium end system, and I have decent gameplay stability, FCOM, BBC, UL's, parts of REAVWD and a bunch of quest mods (amongst a lot of other things) wit frame rates normally between 20-30 fps.

I've got the option to move to a 64-bit desktop with 4gb ram, interl core 17 processor with 2.26 ghz and a 1gb NVIDIA Geforce GT220. I'm of the impression already that this will give me at least slightly better performance, not to mention allowing me to use the LAA patch.

Can anyone either A) Give me a rough guess of how much of a gain I would get on the new computer or B ) Give an opinion of whether the gain in performance would be worth the effort to transport it over.

A ) Some. B ) Yes.

However, that CPU seriously outclasses that graphics card, for gaming anyway. I would personally - unless you have some (OTHER) need for an i7 - go for perhaps an i5 (760?) and a slightly better GPU. The only time an i7 is truly relevant to gaming at all is when you "need" to go full-speed Crossfire or SLI. And most gamers, frankly, neither need to do that, nor ever would anyhow.

Well, I'm unlikely to get a chance to get a better process, but a better GPU might not be out of the question in the near future. In any case, if the new system will allow me to bump the Distantgridcount back up to 25 rather than 15, I'll likely be satisfied and leave it at that.

Thanks for the response, anyway.
