NVIDIA 460

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:54 pm

I am debating which of these cards are better. One has more bits but less of pretty much everything else. I am not that knowledgeable when it comes to this kind of thing and was wondering if you could help me.

Also, if there is a better Nvidia/ATI card that performs better for the price please tell me which. My price range is $200-$250.

The memory interface is 192-bit because they reduced the onboard memory to 768MB. They both have the same ratio 4 to 1, video memory to memory interface. Personally, I would go with EVGA as the difference between 768MB and 1GB is minimable.

Thank you very much! I kind of guessed so because the EVGA had 16 ratings and the Sparkle only had 1, but I wanted a better opinion.

So the EVGA is the best buy for that amount of money? I know that there's kind of a point where if you spend even $20 more it's totally worth it in the long run, then diminishes more as you go up in price. I don't know if I hit that price or not.

Also I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to the comparing between Processor Cores and Stream Processing Units. Is the NVIDIA 460 better than the ATI equivalent for that price? ($220.00)

I would go EVGA over Sparkle because EVGA is a better known company with a better track record. I have never used sparkle, nor have I seen much said in favor of sparkle.

Price/performance trade offs are marginal unless you are trying to make your system cry buy running games at the highest possible settings at the highest possible resolution, IE: Benchmarking. Personally the only thing I see ATI having over nVidia currently is less power requirements, but I am already a gamer with a gaming computer, so that doesn't concern me, though Im not sure about you. What is your power supply wattage?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182097&Tpk=Rosewill%20Xtreme%20950w%20rx950-d-b. It's somewhat unneeded, but it was a present. lol. I care more about the best performance/graphics I can get, but I don't want to pay $100 more for a barely better item. $50 is a huge difference for $150-$200 card, but not that big for $250-$300 card. I currently have a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143187&Tpk=bfg%20geforce%209800%20gt%201gb.

Is the $220 ATI card you are looking at the 5770? If so, then I would go with the 460.

The lowest Radeon card to pick over the GTX 460 is the Radeon 5850...if you can't afford it, then the GTX 460 is still quite a powerful card.

It looks like the 5830 is the closest in price to the 460 and the 460 is much better according to the site Echonite posted (tomshardware). The 5850 is quite a bit more expensive. The cheapest one on newegg is $50 more than the 460.
So I think I will get the GTX 460. Thank you!
