Graphics settings not saved?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:02 pm

Installed Fallout 3 today, patched to 1.7 and applied the Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch

Maxed out all settings, started the game, and started a new game. However the graphics looks awful, so I check the settings and the texture size is at "large" and everything is at max.

But it obviously isn't, so what's wrong? :S It's like the game won't use the settings at all.

I've got the same issue, and it just started happening out of nowhere.

I was messing with different CrossfireX configs on a friends pc. Everything seemed ok, but after a vid card swap, I noticed that the textures were set to the lowest level, along with everything else. I exited the game and made sure everything was set properly, even changing everything to Low, Mid, High and Ultra settings just to make it look different. Everything defaults back to low, regardless of video settings or hardware config.

I reinstalled the game to see if that would work and it seems to be permanently locked at Low. I'll look in the registry to see if I can find something stuck at low quality.

Ok, here's what I discovered after messing around with some settings with an ATI setup with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

This happened after a CrossfireX install (with 2 yummy HD 5670's); right-click on the desktop and enter Catalyst Control Center. Go under the 3D settings and check the mipmap level. For me, a fresh install of the drivers or installing a Crossfire setup will default the settings to the 'Preformance' setting and gimp your quality through the drivers. Set it back to 'Quality' and it should fix it.

This is why I didn't notice a difference when I un/re-installed the game or the drivers, as it was defaulting to the setting in the drivers. If you have an Nvidia setup, check for the same things in the configs in the ForceWare drivers.

Dunno what to say if it doesn't work. :brokencomputer:
