To me, blowing up Megaton seems pointless. Here's why.

Spoiler
If you blow up Megaton, you lose one of the best shops in the game. You also lose the much bigger house than in Tenpenny Tower. Also, bombed out survivors of the blast will try to kill you throughout the wasteland. So more enemies for you if you do it. If you decide not to, Mister Burke will hire assassins to hunt you down. You can take care of that by killing him AFTER he starts shooting at you in Moriarty's (if you do it before, the others become hostile). Then you go to Tenpenny Tower, complete the Tenpenny Tower Quest.

If you decide to let the Ghouls live there, you get a ghoul mask which is helpful when exploring the metro tunnels (which you need to do to reach DC Ruins) because the ghouls do not attack you.

If you don't, you don't get anything except experience and an arsenal of weapons from the security guard trading them.

I let the ghouls in, and I played swiftly into the ruins. I also kept Megaton, I am a Wasteland Saint and have discovered about 120 locations on the map.

Everyone should blow up Megaton at least once, in my opinion. There are enough other places to shop, especially if you have Point Lookout and The Pitt. The glorious explosion and what happens to Moira are completely worth the loss of a couple shops.

If you do decide to blow the joint, hire Jericho, kill the townspeople and loot all of the homes and stores first. No sense in wasting all of that loot.

Latest character I blew up Megaton and still seen as good somehow.

It really doesn't make that much of a difference from my opinion. It's more a moral dilemma

Make sure you grab the Strength bobblehead before blowing up Megaton. You can't get it if you don't.
