Deathclaws in groups

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:06 pm

I encountered a Deathclaw at around lvl 9, tried to snipe it from far but that didn't went well :P Will try crippling legs next time. Anyway I reloaded a couple of times and then they was like 2-3 attacking. Somehow I almost managed to kill them all with lots of health items, when I reloaded it was 1 again. So just wondering is it common they move in groups? It seems bit imbalance, it's not you can outrun them or anything.

It's not their natural behavior, from my experience, but they often spawn close to each other out in the wastes. They will not attack each other, but everything else entering their hunting area is a target, and sometimes they seem to share the prey, so... Two attacking you is not unusual. Three at a time isn't impossible either, in some areas. Up north, there is a ghosttown packed with them. They may be a gang up there, but elswhere they, mostly, roam alone.

ive experienced two of them but never three. always usually encounter them on their own i have to say. old olney though is abit mad, they are roaming about everywhere in that place. i actually couldnt believe it, i once started a new game, got out of the vault, went to megaton, started the wasteland survival guide missions for moira.. making my way past where grandma sparkle hangs out, there comes bryan wilkes running from grayditch with a deathclaw chasing him haha i actually hadnt a chance against it i was only level 2 i think? with like a hunting rifle & vault 101 jumpsuit, i didnt know they could appear at such low levels??

If you encounter a Deathclaw at L2 armed with only a hunting rifle, you're pretty much toast. Fortunately, they're not found in areas where you're likely to be when you're at low levels.

Best weapon for dealing with deathclaws is the Dart Gun. It slows them way down, allowing you to flee or kill them from afar.

Only time I deal with multiple is either Enclave controlled Deathclaws or at Old Olney. Luckily, a singular one I can deal with with Lincoln's Repeater, if I'm dealing with multiple then a Dart Gun is essential

I had 2 DCs appear next to the metro (en route to GnR) at lvl 4. I had just fought the SMs and Raiders that have a shootout over the river. I pooped a little bit. luckily I saw them before they saw me. I had 3 Mines so placed them on the ground and carefully walked backwards. Pulled out my Chinese AR and free aimed to get their attention, still pooping. When they charged one was limping so I VATS'ed him. and the other one ran through my mini minefield. The injured one dropped after a few more rounds. The other was being delayed by mines. I opened VATS had 2 shots and he was on me. Couldn't risk a reload so just fired what i had. He fell. I paused, saved and went and cleaned my self off.

That was the earliest I have seen multiple DCs

It took me 4 playthroughs and a library to overcome my fear of the Deathclaw.

Just read alot of 'Guns & Ammo'. They'll eventually turn into glass gargoyles.

That's about right

First deathclaw at level 9 should prove a challenge

A few more levels and some more experince you may find your self wondering how they ever seemed so scary

In front of the deathclaw sanctuary, there are two, noticably smaller deathclaws right next to each other. After the waters of life there is an enclave camp very very close to the sanctuary with an enclave controlled deathclaw. Enclave deathclaws attack normal ones...

Deathclaws are a pain in the butt to fight at low levels. If I'd had to fight them I'd try fighting them with grenades and on top of a cliff so that the Deathclaws can't reach you.
