What Are you more exited for?

Christmas. Since it will be here in 4 days. Skyrim won't be out for 11 months.

I'm most excited to see some real game footage. I'm reserving my excitement about release day until I find out some key aspects, such as whether the player is the Dovahkiin.

Right now: Christmas, for personal (and religious) reasons. Our family has had a rough year, and it will be nice to get together. And after that, the GI release so I can get info. And after that, Shogun 2: Total War release, and then Skyrim release.

Christmas, because I get gifts and get to see family that I don't see very often. If this was ten years in the future when I have thousands of dollars to spend on electronics and time to go on trips to visit extended family when I want, I would stay the release.

Though it may be with the minority, I have my priorities straight. I am most excited about Christmas, because heck, that is so much more than just some video game, how ever good that particular game may be.

But after that, I am most excited about the release of the February issue of Game Informer revealing all kinds of awesome stuff on the game. For two reasons the game's actual release is at the bottom of this list...

Firstly, I hardly know anything about it, I mean, I know Oblivion was great, but this is a different game, what detail of Skyrim should I be getting excited about it's release for when it is more than ten and a half months away from the launch date?

I need more than one or two reasons to get so excited about something while it is so far off, I just need to learn more about it first for that to get much more thought so many months before launch.

Currently? My short-term excitement is heavily leveled towards Christmas- it's closest, and I'm getting New Vegas for it, family, all that other stuff. I'm looking forward to the reveal, but I fear that Bethesda may spill too much information before release, similar to what happened with Oblivion.

Naturally, 11-11-11 is a day my long term excitement is already eying hungrily, and as that day draws near, it will begin to bubble and seethe and multiply exponentially. Until it has nowhere left to go but into my short-term excitement, which I naturally feel far more acutely than long-term excitement, at which point... well, let's just say I won't be able to think of much else in that time.

I remember the last game I actually got this hyped for. It was Spore (didn't live up to the hype, which was physically impossible, as gamers had hyped the game up beyond anything before that in their heads, to the point Maxis actually said "you know, hype is good, but this is out of control, let's calm people down.) I had trouble sleeping.

It will be a fight between my desire to get a box copy and my desire to have the game as soon as I physically can (Steam pre-load, in other words).

My mother asked me a few days ago if I was excited about Christmas, and I just said "What? Why should I be?".
All I could think about was January 6th.

Family event > Video Game

It's a different kind of anticipation but I wouldn't put a game over family.
