How would you pronounce languages like "Ehlnofex"? a

Post » Sat May 26, 2012 7:29 am

Random question, but I've always pronounced "Aldmeris" as if it has a silent "s", so it'd sound the same as "Aldmeri", and I do the same with "Ehlnofex", pronouncing it as "Ehlnofey". But is this right?

How do you guys pronounce these?

What Echonite said, though it really took me a while to get Ehlnofex down, and I consistently forget how to spell it.

Also to add, Aldmeri is already a term, so having Aldmeris having the same pronunciation as Aldmeri would only screw with people's heads.

I'll use those horse-addled pronunciations when the Devs hire a voice actor that actually uses mer that way.

I use a lot of fleghm when saying Ehlnofex & Ehlnofex words. For no particular reason, I heavily associate the language with Hebrew.

I maintain that you pronounce the "is" as you might pronounce the end of "canaries" or "metamorphoses". Aldmer-iss sounds like a disease.

That's a point actually. The derogatory nickname for the Aldmeri Dominion in the PGE1 is Old Mary Dominion. So Aldmeris=pronounced Old Marys?

It sounds like you're reading it as a plural of "Aldmeri".

When you wrote [e], did you mean [?]? [e] isn't a standalone sound in English.

I think the PGE is more playing on the idea that ald=old, while simutaniously mocking the mer by calling them mary's, a traditional schoolyard insult, infering 'pansy' or 'wimp' while also being a clever play on the word Mer, pluralized.

I didn't mean to have a point, just having fun in the same theme as the PGE.

Who says I have to pronounce a word like it was English?
