Giant radscorpions

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 6:21 pm

I met one when I was heading to Arefu. Every weapon I used did really low damage and it did alot dmg. I had to kite it for a long time to kill it. Any tips on how to beat it easier? I'm just lvl 5, maybe too low lvl? Had more troubles with it than a Super mutant

Run backwards dropping mines; when its legs get crippled, turn around and run, still dropping mines. Try and track a straight line if you can, and if you see non-hostile soldiers (Brotherhood Outcasts, for example) head their way and stop dropping mines. I typically try to carry 10 of the best mines and grenades I can find ten of, plus up to ten Pulse mines and grenades and as many grenades as I have of higher than the best I can find 10 of, be that Plasma or Nuka grenades and Bottlecap mines, or all of them (for example, 10 frag grenades, 10 frag mines, 10 pule mines, 10 pulse grenades, 3 plasma grenades, 4 plasma mines, 3 nuka-grenades, and 5 bottecap mines). Pulse weapons, especially pulse mines, are of limited use as far as explosives go, and are therefore the idea choice for the Shady Sands Shuffle.

The dart gun slows it down a lot, then you can run and target the stinger.

They can't jump very well, so if you can find some rocks or something else to climb on you can shoot at them from relative safety (since they have no ranged attack).

Entomologist perk helps a lot, obviously.

I think a flame through is effective. In particular if you cripple their legs (dart gun or otherwise), you can try circling around while attacking at close range. You might be able to circle faster than they can.

But they are bullet sponges. In particular the Albinos - which are super enemies.

I have noticed that Deathclaws can deal with even Albino Radscorpions. Maybe it's their armor-neglecting claws that do the trick, and maybe the deathclawgauntlet is a effective weapon against scorpions. I haven't tried it yet, but you could (if you got the balls to go hand-to-hand with these beasts - I don't).

You're seeing giant ones at level five? I'm fourteen and I've only seen three or four of them. It must be very exciting facing one at your level.

I advise hopping up on top of a car and killing them from safety that way.

They're Level 9 creatures that don't normally appear until you're level 12. But there are a couple of random encounters that will spawn them in. There's one where you'll see it fighting with some Giant Ants. It won't be hostile unless you open fire on it or you get too close to the dead ants it's guarding. That one is best left alone. You can walk all around it without being attacked unless you get near one of the ants. Unfortunately, it sometimes happens to spawn in at a inconvenient location like the Super Duper Mart. If you try to fast travel there when the Scorpion is around, you'll end up too close to his personal stash and it turns hostile.

It's from one of the random encounters.

I hate the Giant Radscorpions, they're faster then the regular radscorpion so kiteing really hard to do. I'd just use the Combat Shotgun on their stinger or body, or try to climb up a rock face and just shoot it with any gun when you reach the top because the giant radscorpion will just keep moving towards you.

Ive been told that their claws dont negate armor, they are just that strong that armor doesn't do much.

I find the Death Claw Guantlet to be very effective against Radscorpions even albino Radscopions. Particularly if you can circle (strafe) around them when you are attacking so their stinger can't hit. The Death Claw Gauntlet also also has the advantage of conserving ammunition. Even at high gun skill levels, Ablinos can soak up a huge amount of ammo.

Armor definitely has an effect on the effectiveness of a Deathclaw's attacks.

This was my first introduction to radscorpions. My first night playing the game, I was about 3rd level. It nearly killed me. Thank goodness I had found a flamer and some fuel.
