Why is it ironic? People of African descent aren't the only people who were slaves in history. People of many different backgrounds have been slaves in the past, and the slaves that were of African descent in the Americas were sold to Europeans by Africans.

I agree with seti. Black people shouldn't be stereotypes for slaves. Most races have been in captivity at one point or another. The black slave trade in the US was just the most recent that was closely related to us.

This is why its Ironic.
Whites enslaved blacks in late 1700's early 1800's (IIRC from history I havent payed attention to it lately)
Now in the year 2270, the leader of the slavers is black.

Well, when you look at it that way, it is ironic. But it just doesn't make much difference to me what colour the person is, regardless of history..

Let's all not forget that the African slave trade was also the worst of slavery in history: most slaves before then could own property, hade some basic freedoms, etc. Granted, it still svcked, but it wasn't as bad as the African slave trade in most cases. The African slave trade was a result of Europe's extreme Cultural Bias, putting them on top and everyone else in varying degrees on the Totem Pole.

Those who sold slaves to the Europeans were African. Such trade made some African kingdoms, such as the Asante, wealthy. Considering that slavery would have been abolished for over 400 years in the U.S. by 2270, it shouldn't ironic. Native Americans were looked at as slaves shortly before Africans were.

I think this thread could at best be a festering mess of poor-taste quips and bickering. There's really no good place it can go.
