Have you even patched the game before going on rampage about all the glitches in Fallout 3?

While the game is glitchy, I don't have any major ones. Can't complain there.
I get no random lagging, bugs, or lockups, so no complains.

Also make sure you tweak the graphics some, especially if you ignore the recommended settings for your system (like me) and tweak them to look nice (seen too many that click ultra and then complain about lag and stuff when the system is processing way too much on hardware that shouldn't be running at more than medium settings)

Another thing is to patch the program, if you're running 1.0 it's going to be glitchy compared to the current updated version.

Also check what you got running in the background, had one buddy that didn't think having 5 chat programs... 2 tabbed instances of IE... and an irc program running in back would affect how a game would run. (course he also had system search updating the index as well as his anti-virus running a scan during his key game play times which never helps)

I'm just disappointed that Bethesda thinks it's okay to abandon games when there are still major problems in them. The ash/goo pile glitch in Fallout 3 is a good example, as is the "A-Bomb" too many save files glitch in Oblivion. It's almost like Bethesda says "Screw it, we got GOTY already, why bother fixing anything anymore?". It's a pretty lazy attitude and a bit disrespectful to their loyal fanbase.

There are limits to support that they can feasibly do on the games from a business/financial sense

At some point you have to say stop, otherwise you'll be supporting older software for years down the road with resources better spent on the next game (learning from the past bugs to make sure they don't show up again)

To be honest the game is glitchy no matter what you do to it. Patches and computer settings only get you so far. After that you just have to save frequently and hope for the best. I think everyone agrees that it's totally unsafe to rely on the autosave feature or to save over saves. To me that's glitchy. At the very least that should have been fixed because that problem existed with Oblivion. But it seems there are certain things with this game engine that are unfixable even by the pros and they just went with it because what else are they supposed to do? No time to develop a whole new game engine and nothing else out there will run this the way it is. Personally I'm willing to put up with a bit of crap to have a truely exceptional gaming experience. Although that doesn't stop me from cussing when the game ctd's right just as I finished something I don't want to do over again.

To the OP, even with it's issues this is an amazing game and Bethesda deserves much praise for doing what they've done even if it isn't perfect. If you can't see that I truely feel sorry for you.

I'm not going to lie... the fact that there is that stupid "grabbing" glitch on the PS3 sort of irritated me when I had to restart my entire game because it corrupted all my saved game files (corrupted by adding the glitch to them) making my character not be able to look around, which has its disadvantages.

Everything's been smooth as a baby's bum so far over here, GoTY Edition, on PC/Windows 7 64-bit.

When this game is glitching and bugging over the top, the problem is in the user, not the game.
Or his computer.

My game only starts to glitch when I've been playing for some ridiculous amount of time. If a PC get more fans, if a PS3 or XBOX 360 you can buy external cooling fans that work pretty well.

I think this game is too good to be bothered complaining too much. Sure, the CTD's get annoying but saving regularly prevents that to some degree.

I'm running the game on 360, fully updated, all DLC - so far I've had flying deathclaws, multiple freezes, those wierd multicoloured horizon rainbows, dissapearing textures in the Anchorage war memorial, stuff getting stuck in the wall - this is a horrifically buggy game, you can't deny it, but it's still fantastic. It's a testament to the quality of the game that it is so highly rated despite the glitches :fallout:

If something's running badly enough that something blowing air into it can break it and cause it to melt, you have serious problems.

"The Nyko Intercooler has been reported to have caused a general hardware failure in a number of consoles, as well as scorching of the power AC input. Microsoft stated that the peripheral drains too much power from the console and can cause the faults to occur, and stated that consoles fitted with the peripheral will have their warranty null and void."

For the OP - if you have specific issues you need help with, I would suggest using the hardware/software forums for you applicable platform and provide detailed information.

I have a pretty decent new-ish rig, and FO3 ran really smoothly, with only a few CTDs over several 100 hours of play, didn't lag, etc., even after I loaded all five DLC at one time. I realize others do experience problems, but many people were able to get them resolved and go on to play with few or no problems at all.
In any case, hardware/software issues belong in their own forum, so I will close this.
