Stalking shopowners

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:50 am

I don't know if think i have a point or not, but in Oblivion when you went into a shop you just couldn't go out of sight of the shopkeeper before he/she would follow to just look at you again. This was very annoying. Especially when you were playing as a thief and tried to steal things from the shop. It didn't feel normal and neither did the lack of customers. You went into a shop and you were the only one there. All the time!!?

I hope Skyrim will become more realistic. Anyone who agrees?

yeah, for all of oblivions vaunted intelligence, it felt incredibly static, but its like 5 years since then and technology has come a long way, so i bet i will be better

I would like busier shops, but it seemed ok to me if the shopkeeper kept an eye on me (especially as I was usually eyeing up their stuff to steal or trying to unlock basemants and such :whistling:)

Yeah busier shops would make it more realistic, and you could sneak upstairs and steal things.

So you think it would be more realistic if the shop owners wouldn't care about you sneaking around their shop?

Combine the part when i wrote that the stores didn't feel alive. A shopkeeper can't keep an eye on everyone.

I do want to see NPCs actually shopping in the shops. I don't think Skyrim's economy can get by with just me as the consumer base.

As for the stalking, I don't mind it, as long as there is a delay - the shop owner shouldn't immediately be looking over your shoulder if you stroll out of view. It shoudl take them a moment to get suspicious. And they should turn their back on you from time to time, as in MW (just not quite as much as in MW :) ).

i agree, plus the WAY they keep an eye on you is kinda ridiculous, they literally follow you around and gawk at you while you do your business

They are waiting on you, because you are their sole patron and without your business they will starve and resort mass mudcrab genocide to feed the ailing shopkeepers!

Well, except for a general store where they have a crapton of stuff, the Assassin's Creed 2 method of shops is likely more realistic. They have the counters open to the outside, and you interact with them from the street. They should have some of each, but with so much of their livelihoods tied up with the shop, they'd better watch you like a hawk to prevent shoplifting.

No, no, what's unrealistic is Morrowind where the shop keepers are just like, "Oh, going up to my personal apartment? That's fine. Help yourself to a mazte or kwama egg, just don't try to sell it back to me or I'll have you arrested! Because my kwama eggs are special and I can tell the difference between my kwama eggs and someone else's." :cookie:

I may be remembering wrong, but if you had a high enough disposition with the merchantm didnt they stop following you? I thought that was ok, but yeah we need more shops, felt like I was controlling the economy.
