Greetings all. Sadly, I was going to post a new chapter sometime tommorow, but I will not be able due to a canoe trip in Missouri, but I will definately be putting one up when I get back. I'll be planning Fan Fics the whole time I'm gone, so I should have some good stuff
However, I do have a small section I can add on now. Thanks again for reading ^_^
Viro opened the door, leaving it open behind him for Bralos. He looked Lupus in the eye, saying nothing. He had last seen the elf during his test of Viro's power, he had flippantly dismissed him by leaving camp. 'Await my return.' His last words, one month ago.
Viro also noted the Argonian, sitting on a greenish wooden stool. He wore a ratty grey robe, his long off green tail draping down to the floor. He seemed not to have noticed Viro's entrance, his eyes were closed and he had not moved an inch. Viro would have considered him dead had he not spoken at that moment "So?this is the one?" He hissed the words, barely audible, drawing out each syllable.
Viro paused, quickly glanced at Lupus, and then replied "Yes. I am Viro. And you are?" Bralos had closed the door behind him, and the room became quite cramped. It seemed far too small to Viro, even though he and Bralos were on the opposite side of Lupus and the Mystic.
"I am Hagheihasja, but you may call me Ha' Ei' Hasa." Viro doubted he could pronounce the Argonian's true name, even though he heard it clearly "And you, my dear elf, can supposedly see magic, in all forms?"
"Yes, Ha Yi Hasha." Viro struggled over the unfamiliar syllables. His doubts were confirmed when the Argonian corrected him.
"Ha' Ei' Hasa, thank you, and that was a?rhetorical question." He did not seem angered; his face was less readable than the average Argonian, which confused Viro to no end.
Bralos stood in the corner, silently, hands folded in front of him. Lupus watched with mild amusemant at Viro's blunder, and then cut in, with unconcealed spite "Yes, Argonian, he can see magic. I tested this myself, and I already described the depths of the situation to you. Please conduct your business, so we may continue on our way."
Ha' Ei's mask was unchanged, if he was perturbed, his voice did not betray it either "Very well, Viro, if you would please follow me." He indicated the door with a withered claw.
"Of course, Ha' Ei' Hasa." He opened the door once more, and then stood aside, signaling to the Argonian to lead.
He stood with obvious effort, but made no noise. He nodded once, and then strode out of the shack. Viro followed solemnly behind him, with Lupus brusquely behind, cutting off Bralos, who left last, with a blatant look of annoyance.
Ha' Ei' moved quickly through the marshy terrain, leading the procession through the trees until the shack was obscured by foliage. Lupus' look of frustration was replaced by a somber appearance; he was both curious and annoyed with the Mystic. Viro appeared apprehensive, but tried to look nonchalant when the Argonian turned to face him.
Viro saw his half closed eyes glow with a lavender radiance, what the Bosmer knew to be a life detection spell. Thinking it a test, he said "You are using a variation of life detection."
Ha' Ei's mask broke for a moment, he was now firmly convinced of Viro's powers "This detection ability you have, it comes with a?ah, extreme intolerance to magic, no?"
Before Viro could answer, the Argonian continued "You are still able to use magic; it simply causes you extreme pain when applied to your body. You can, for instance, still use magic on someone else. Therefore, it is your body, notably not you mind, from which the magic flows out of you, that has this weakness. This means any body-permeating magic debilitates you, even ones meant to be helpful. If restoration forced you to lose consciousness, destruction would, without a doubt, be worse."
No one spoke as the words sunk in. Then, Lupus' calm disintegrated "I know this already! We hired you to come up with a solution, not give a diagnosis!"
"Peace, Altmer. The first step of treatment is to discover the problem." Lupus retreated, still glaring at the Mystic.
"Your mage friend there," he indicated Bralos, who still remained silent "Suggested you build a tolerance through regular spells. This would almost definitely cause potentially hazardous side effects, and the inherent dangers are immense." Bralos muttered something, but the lizard's monologue covered it "That is, without the proper equipment and observation. The simplest of restoration will cause immense pain, but the only thing that caused you to black out was the higher level magic the nurse performed on you."
Viro was shocked at Ha' Ei's knowledge of the events surrounding his discovery of his power. Someone must have contacted Lupus somehow, and told him all of this, for the Argonian to also know. Lupus' indifferent glare gave Viro no clues.
"I propose you wear an enchanted item, to block most of the magic from accessing your system. Small doses of restoration, preferably a self prescribed amount, as only you know when you are in danger. However, I must perform several tests before I conclude anything further." He finished speaking just as abruptly as he had started, leaving more questions than answers.
"So, do you know how this could have happened?" Viro asked, confused.
Ha' Ei' became suddenly more serious, which Viro would not have thought possible "That, my dear elf, was not what I came here for. I recommend that you not concern yourself with it either, some mysteries are better left unsolved, especially when they give such gifts."
Viro stood silent, looking at his black boots, contemplating all he had heard. Suddenly, he looked back into the eyes of the Argonian "When can you start these tests?"
For the first time, Ha' Ei' bared his teeth in an Argonian smile. His eyes sparkled with childlike curiosity as he replied "Now." Viro saw a flash of green, then felt himself falling, unable to move. His vision became blurry as his head stopped suddenly, inches from the ground, held up by an invisible force.
"What in Nirn are you doing?!" Bralos spoke for the first time since he saw the Argonian. Viro could not move, but he was still conscious, and heard his friend clearly.
"A basic paralyzing spell, followed by telekinesis. The paralyzing effect should have worn off by now, however, your friend still cannot move. He does not seem to be in any pain, however. This tells me that his condition does not destroy cells; it merely amplifies the effects of the magic. His pain during restoration magic is due to a hyper growth of tissue." Viro felt himself levitated on a cushion of magic; he could see the aura of it flickering beside him from the limited range of vision afforded to him by the paralysis.
Lupus had watched the events take place calmly. When the Argonian first mentioned testing, he knew he would commence immediately. Nonetheless, he was still anxiously concerned for Viro's safety. 'If he could control his power, he would quickly become one of the best Ductoris in the organization.'
"Viro, I will now cast a dispelling spell, to cancel the paralysis. You will still float, do not worry." Viro looked down his tanned nose at the Mystic, eyes shrinking as his fear subsided. He saw a dark blue bolt of magic running towards him, then a flash as it hit him. Finding himself able to move once more, he sat up within his bed of telekinesis, appearing to him as light purple goo, bubbling up at the edges. He looked at Ha' Ei' and saw his scaled hand a vibrant golden color.
"Please warn me next time?" Viro said, flexing his fingers to be sure they still operated.
"I apologize, Viro, but if you had known, it might have altered the effects."
"Whatever, I don't agree with your methods." Bralos addressed the Argonian begrudgingly.
"You don't have to. They work." Lupus calmly rebutted the mage without ever opening his eyes.
Notice the not really finalized ending, I intend to edit it in soon. The meeting with the Mystic is a large section...Thanks again
