Black moon?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:50 pm

I noticed today that both Masser and Secunda in my game seem to be blackened out and dark, making it very hard to make them out against the night-sky. I'm not using any night or weather mods, so I have no idea how this could have occurred. This ISN'T a graphics card issue; Masser and Secunda appeared fine in my game before, and they still work in my vanilla copy.
Here is a screenshot to demonstrate the issue clearly:

And my load-order, so that someone can hopefully pin-point the problem:

Could it be a double new moon?

In my game, for the very first time in years, I saw a full new moon. Took me by surprise. Could it be a natural once in a game time thing?

I always see full new moons in my game. So I very much doubt that this is a unique occurrence in-game. Perhaps I'm just overreacting, I'll try waiting a few hours in-game. But I've never seen this before at all.
EDIT: After waiting an hour or so, the black moon vanishes. I'm starting to believe that I may have a problem with the moons just showing up at all.

Any texture replacers? Specifically ones having to do with the sky?

A shot in the dark (harr harr harr), maybe something messed with the Bloodmoon script? or some script from one of the mods that changed the sky? Maybe some mod caused a GMST problem and that ruined the visual effect of the bloodmoon script (I've had gmst problems with tons of other visual effects)? That's all I got.

Well I don't know if something changed the bloodmoon scripted, but it can't be happening now; I only just started a bit of the bloodmoon MQ. I noticed for a long time that I was unable to see either moon in the sky for a while now, so I'm guessing that this is the real problem here.
EDIT: Well, I loaded a different save-game from my vanilla copy, and both moons appeared fine even with all of my mods. On the save this is occurring in, it's 13th of Rains Hand (230 days of playing).

Ok, so you've established its a dirty save. Have you installed http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes3Mod:Wrye_Mash yet? load your savegame and have a look. Could it be that you once had some mod installed that changed something about the moons - you saved your current game and then deleted the mod? - with Wrye Mash, that kind of thing would be easy to see/fix.

Just another idea: there was a "black sun" bug with older ATI graphics cards drivers. Maybe something similar is happening to your moons.

I've cleaned out a few Dirty mods, and while the black moon was still there, I noticed that both moons reappear only during the day-time (Like in the early morning)
Perhaps I was just panicking, but there is something odd going on with my moons in-game alright.
