Yay! Got it!

I finally got my copy of Fallout Collection and installed Fallout 1 and 2 (Never going to touch Tactics) and started playing. I need some help! I found Shady Sands and Vault 15 and it's already day 7! I got the rope though. Can you tell me, what to do now ( don't spoil it for me!). Any help appreciated!

P.S. These two games are better than Fallout 3. :tops:

Lool :P why aren't you going to touch Tactics? Have you touched it already? I think you should touch it, just once, no-one will judge you :P

Well if you want to follow some sort of natural progression I'd goto Shady Sands and getting some info on nearby settlements. Or are you asking howto get into Vault 15 with the rope? If that's the case I suggest you press "F1" to bring up a screen on different point and click features, so then you'll know how to apply the rope to the object in question. I also think you'll need 2 ropes if I'm not mistaken, there's another broken elevator within.

Hope that wasn't too vauge whilst still giving you enough to go on :P

Dancing around spoilers...
The rope is an inventory item now. Some inventory items can be "used" on various objects/scenery in the game. watch the text box in the lower left, always read what it says when it updates.

When you hold down the mouse button over an object you get a small toolbar, if you choose the backpack button, it allows you to pick an item from your inventory to 'use'; Selecting the rope will have your character tie the rope (to certain places), and then shows the tied rope in the gameworld. Clicking on the rope then, will have him climb it.

~Also, there is a "tell-me-about" button on the conversation menu. Pressing it gives you a text-box to type a question. Most NPC heads have additional dialog statements if they recognize what you are asking about. (Recognition is limited, and most have around 7 to 12(?) keywords each. (try names of known people and places).

Have a chat to Ian in Shady Sands... He knows a few of the wastelands hot spots.

Why wouldn't you play Tactics if you now own it? Tactics is an excellent game. Great graphics and good squad-based combat. Not a deep RPG, but it isn't supposed to be. It does exactly what it claims to: squad combat in the Fallout Universe. Plus you will miss out on R. Lee Ermey as the general, and extensive narration by Ron Perlman. Oh well, your loss..

Hint:
Help Shady Sands with their problems; recruit Ian and head for Junktown.

What you gotta do NOW is to keep exploring Vault 15. You MIGHT find something interesting there :shifty:

Well, I talked to everyone in Shady Sands, searched everything, but I still don't have any armor! Oh and, can I somehow avoid Random Encounters? I don't want to lose my ammo.

Well Shady Sands is essentially the first place you find in the natural progression of things. So you'll unlikely find armour the first place you visit. You can't avoid random encounters in FO1, but a good outdoorsman skill will increase the chances of them being positive, or at least more advantageous if it's hostile. You don't have to lose/use/waste ammo in random encounters, you can just make a dash for the exit grids if you don't want to burn ammo.

Also, Junktown can be a little difficult to find based on Aradesh's directions. He says it lies south of Shady Sands, but it's ever so slightly to the west aswell. My advice is to head south from Vault 13, and you should run into Junktown.

day seven and at vault 15 and apparently its "better" than fallout 3 already? or are you just svcking up to the anol fan boys in this forum?

anyway which way i might also ask why not touch tactics? the xbox/ps2 one is the one your supposed to hate. i actually quite enjoy tactics and even if you dont like it then id suggest getting this Total Conversion mod to make it like the original fallout with better graphics

Fallout is a different kind of experience. It's all the better if you figure it out for yourself, discover things. It's replay value is fantastic, so don't worry about getting a perfect run through the first time around. Explore, discover things, talk to people. A huge part of the appeal of Fallout on your first play through is the feeling of being lost. There is zero hand holding in this game, you have to figure things out for yourself, but you'll be pleasantly surprised just how much freedom the game gives you to do that. You are your character, you just walked out of a vault into a strange and frightening new world. Don't look for answers online, embrace that experience.

Update: Found the Hub, Junktown and got the special BB gun from the car dealer. Any hints on making caps? And, I wanted to sell the BB gun at the general store, but there's no "Choose X" to choose enough caps from the merchant.

Caps are pretty easy to come by when you're combat oriented, the loot from kills combined with the way your character sells items for their base value no matter how good or bad his/her barter skill is, makes for an increasingly unbalanced ladder to wealth. But even if it did work properly, it's still the most prominent way to make caps compared to any other method. You can also run with some caravans in the Hub, and though the runs are dangerous, you don't need to be so proficient in combat to survive, some armour for protection is a good start, and then you just need to support the caravan guards if you happen to run into hostiles, once you reach your destination you recieve payment, and then you can take the run back and recieve yet another payment. So can be quite lucrative if you make a habit of it. Problem is caravans only run on specific days of the month, so it's not that convenient.

Choose X? If you want to sell something greater than 999 caps in FO1, just choose 999 and repeat the process, you can type 999 in the field with your keyboard for quickness. Unless your problem is that the merchant you're selling to doesn't hold enough caps, in which case I'd suggest trying the east side of the hub.

capn tucker- when i do get to tactics i am going to see about this 'great graphics' statement and make judgments, lol.

in fact, i can t wait until i get a bit farther into fallout1 and then hit #2 so that i can start drawing some good conclusions between the originals and fallout3...

Great graphics compared to the originals, definitely. And they're pretty smooth even by today's standards. I'd say they were good enough not to herald visual criticisms from a modern day audience, at least.

Also, there are no conclusions when comparing titles, only personal ones. The opinions of the respective titles prevail on their respective boards, as a general observation.
