So if I check for an NPC to respawn, how long will it take them to do so when they die?

maybe experiement kill a guard and see how long it takes for them to return

On cell reloading after corpse has been disposed.
Standard game setting for dead things auto removal is 72 hours.
If you dispose of corpse from the looting inventory, you skip the 72 hours delay.
