Best Things About Morrowind?

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 5:36 am

Hey, I am a huge fan of The Elder Scrolls, I also am a writer and have lots of ideas but before I present some of my ideas to the forums I decided to refine them by asking everyone what they felt was done right in past TES games.

So what do you think was the best thing about Morrowind? Was it the size, the quests, the uniqueness of Morrowind, what was it about Morrowind that drew you in and captivated your gaming soul? Tell me, I am very interested in Morrowind and think that future TES games have lots to learn from it.

Here's a list of things I like about Morrowind:
  • Cities - Cites had unique architecture.
  • Loot - Hand placed loot ensured that if I spent half-an-hour exploring a dungeon I was rewarded appropriately. An aspect, sadly missing in Oblivion and Skyrim. Even thieving was interesting.
  • Atmosphere - One would always feel like an outsider in Morrowind.
  • Main Quest
  • Fast Travel - What better way to incoporate fast travel than through in-game transportation.
  • Factions - I loved the way the factions were presented. Although, enimity and political power-struggle felt superficial.

The atmosphere, without a doubt. You can cut it with a knife, and that is some achievement in a game.

* The open world.
* The music. I think Morrowind has the best video game music I've ever heard.
* Intriguing ambiguities in the main quest, and several other quests.
* The Bloodmoon expansion.
* The architectural variety.
* The ability to mod the game. This is the thing I like most about Morrowind.

Atmosphere, art direction, best game music ever, variety, architecture, voice acting is good and memorable,
LOTS of stuff, LOTS of quests, rewarding exploration and mods. Every game should have mods.

This and this additions is something you don't see in many games.
  • Use the ability to make some potions via Alchemy whenever you're if there is no enemies nearby
  • Use the ability to Enchant a new item or recharge an item whenever you're if there is no enemies nearby
  • Sleep anywhere outside of cities and towns if there is no enemies nearby
  • Do whatever you want to do except for being killed

one of the best things was that after you worked at something it started paying off for you. strangly its the combat i loved for this reason. you may have svcked at the begining but once you got good it got fun and made you feel better about being able to cast better or hit the enemy more.

This.

I also really like that I can find end game gear 5 minutes into a run if you know where to look. The leveled crap in oblivion and Skyrim are one of my biggest annoyances with those games.
