Tamrielic Language

TES games are recorded in English. However, lore says that the language of Tamriel is "Tamrielic". Does this mean that, lore-wise, the characters in TES games are not speaking "English" but rather it is just translated so that the player can understand? Or is "Tamrielic" the same language as "English".

It's like asking if Dunmeris is a language on Earth.

It has the same words as English, but it's not English because there are no Anglo-Saxons from whose languages derived (or were bastardized) into English.

Yeah I guess that would have been a better way to phrase my question. Are we meant to believe that Tamrielic has the same words as the English language/same meaning of words. Or does it have its own words/sounds and is merely translated for the benefit of the player?

Likely translated for the benefit of the player.
Personally, I imagine it as sort of like Greek or Latin. Whatever seems most logical to you.

Is it the monkey or the yellow thing I've had forever? Because I'm changing it and the system is throwing a [censored] fit.

If it's the one I hope it is, its my Imga-face.

I usually think of it like Tolkien's works. Westron is the "common" language and the language in which the books are supposed to be written. Westron isn't English, but it's "translated" into English for the benefit of the reader.

Likewise, Tamrielic is like the common tongue. It doesn't use the same words English uses, but it's translated into English for the player. Other languages are kept as is, so it's kind of like experiencing the game from the perspective of someone who speaks and understands Tamrielic. At least that's how I always look at it. I could be wrong.

S'rathra speaks Ta'Agra to Cyrus in Redguard. Cyrus translates Ta'Agra it into Tamrielic. The game then translates Tamrielic into English subtitles. Weird.....
