This should probly be in the spoiler section. I have no idea who sells the Invisibility spell, and it's funny because one of my characters is currently going from town to town trying to find who sells it. I've come across the seller(s) with earlier characters, but can't remember who it was now, nor am I gonna cheat by looking it up. :shrug:

I can answer question #2 but you'll have click on the spoiler link below.

Mixing poisons is easy. You'll need a mortar & pestle (at least) to get started. Now combine any two ingredients that have identical negative effects: combining wisp stalks and nightshade, for instance, will create a Damage Health poison.

You can use the other Alchemy peices (calcinator, alembic, and retort) to make poisons and potions stronger than if you just use a mortar & pestle, but you need at least a mortar/pestle set to start.

Spoiler
You can buy invisibilty spells at the Bravil Mages guild, but you'll need to get your Illusion skill to 50 first. Poisons are made the same way as potions: you need some alchemy equipment - all the mages' guild halls contain several novice sets which you're free to take as a member - and two or more ingredients that possess negative effects, for example combining rat meat and bonemeal will get you a simple damage fatigue posion. Your poison-making options will be somewhat limited until you raise your alchemy skill to apprentice level and higher though, so train the skill by making restore fatigue potions from all the different foodstuffs you'll come across (again, mages' guild halls are good to raid for free food, and you won't get in trouble since you're a member). As to mages guild services, just speak to the other guild hall residents and you'll find spell and potion vendors, skill trainers and weapon rechargers. Each individual guildhall (except Bruma) specialises in a different school of magic: Restoration in Anvil; Destruction in Skingrad; Alteration in Cheydinhall; Conjuration in Chorrol; Illusion in Bravil; and Mysticism in Lleyawin; though some simple spells from every school are available at all the guild halls.

edit: put in spoiler tags, though I don't understand what in the question/answer could constitute a spoiler....

NinJa: that's the beauty of this game...there's lots to explore. I'm actually envious you're starting from scratch by the sound of it!

Some ingredients can be bought, some ingredients can be found in nature, and other ingredients can be found in caves and other underground dwellings. Wisp stalks, for instance, can mostly be found in caves & mines. Nightshade can be found in woodsy areas (but it's kinda rare) as well as in the coffins of some vampires. Or you can buy this stuff from various alchemists or mage's guilld.

What, the ingredients? Plants, mostly, as well as some creatures when killed. Harvesting any plants you come across is a good rule of thumb to begin with, 'till you get an idea of which are the most useful for your character, and even useless potions can be sold for profit. You can also buy ingredients in alchemy stores (there's usually one in each town as well as a vendor in each mages' guild hall, though there are exceptions), as well as some (primarily foodstuffs) in inns/taverns.

edit: am slow again.

I was only offering information that can be inferred from the manual/loading screens, but I didn't mean to upset anyone, apologies.

well to be honest, the game is kind of getting boring. I'm really only interested in the stealth part of it also. I mean, the game gets a bit dumb when you go into a cave, and find out that you can just rush through the whole damn thing with heavy armor and heavy weapons rather than sneaking around so slowly and doing the whole quest slowly. It just makes stealth a little pointless.

Well, stealth becomes more powerful at higher levels when the enemies are tougher and therefore more bother to fight, but anyway: it's a role-playing game, being able to employ different approaches depending on what type of character you are playing is basically the point. Given your fixation with stealth, shouldn't you enjoy hiding in the shadows waiting for an opportune moment to strike more than running around bashing things? I dunno what to tell you tbh, it is an RPG not a stealth game and so there will always be multiple ways to skin any given cat, it's just a question of finding which ways are most fun for you. Personally, I love playing stealthy characters in Oblivion, looting a fort or ruin without so much as a single punch thrown makes me feel like a master thief, but your mileage may vary I suppose.

Doesn't make it pointless at all. If your character is a stealth guy, then that's how he'd do the quests, caves, ruins, etc. If he's a paladin/knight type, then he'd walk in and bash heads most likely. Some like to play stealth, some like magic or combos and others like heavy armor and big swords. ALL characters can get through things in their own way. Doesn't make any of them pointless. Adjust your play style to what you like best and forget that a swordsman can do the same thing. This isn't JUST a stealth game, the game is welcoming to all play styles.

Sounds like the default difficulty. unless you are very good player

Oh and the West Weald is the best place for harvesting, even the rare nightshade is common enough there

Edit: I don't know how to use the spoiler tags so I'll just say it, SPOILERS BELOW SPOILERS BELOW

From the UESP (the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Wiki):

The following ingredients can be used to make a potion of Invisibility:

Apprentice

* Wormwood Leaves

Journeyman

* Tinder Polypore Cap

Expert

* Aloe Vera Leaves
* Blister Pod CapSI
* Flame StalkSI
* Hound ToothSI
* Motherwort Sprig
* Redwort Flower
* Stinkhorn Cap
* Vampire Dust

Back to me:

It appears you can't make any invisibility potions until you reach Journeyman in you alchemy skill (50) because you need to ingredients with the same effect to make a potion with that effect. At expert however (75) you have a lot of choices for making invisibility potions. However, invisibility is interrupted whenever you do something, like attacking, opening a chest, or entering a door. A more useful effect in my opinion is chameleon you stay "chameleonized" even if you do the things mentioned before but, it doesn't provide the same kind of invisibility as the true invisibility potion it is provided in % of invisibility for example 20% chameleon. Chameleon's ingredients for potions and the magic level required to cast it is also higher than invisibility. I hope I explained this well enough.
