Fallout 3.1 Beta

Also: Everyone stop moaning and the guy that said it took them 4 years to make Fallout. It won't take 4 years to make this mod. The Mod may take more than 2 months, the G.E.C.K is just a more complex Version of the Sims (Building tool)
Maybe we won't get exacly 100 quests i'm just asking who would like to be added to the Beta list. So far 25 quests have been planned.

I didn't say that it would take 4 years for YOUR mod to be finished. I was trying to show a point. I don't see how you plan to fulfill bold claims like "doubling the game time" (as you mention on your site) in 1/48 the time it took Bethesda's professional development team to create the game, especially when you clearly are new to the game on the PC and are likely unfamiliar with most aspects of modding.

According to your post you only have a fraction of the quests "planned" but no work has so far been done in creating them? And you're already setting release dates for two months away? I'm sorry, but there's no way you're going to be churning out ANYTHING of that size unless it's a bunch of quickie errand or collection quests or extremely linear go from A-B-C-D quests. Even IF you forgoe the use of voiceovers, there's still a lot of content to create over the course of 1 month, especially when you haven't even started yet.

By comparison, Bethesda had months to create each of their DLC's, and none of them had more than 3-6 quests apiece (and most were rather short anyway). Bethesda had set release dates for them in advance, and even then they had to push back the dates on the Pitt and Broken Steel because it wasn't feasible to implement them in that time frame. Granted, the team was likely much smaller than the full team that developed the vanilla game, but the fact of the matter is that it takes TIME to create decent content.

Also, comparing the G.E.C.K. to the Sims is pretty ignorant, since, as a game, the Sims' family creation and building tools are highly user friendly and require no technical prowess whatsoever to use. Everything you create is automatically integrated into the game by its programming. Concepts like writing, scripting, debugging, balancing, etc. have NOTHING to do with the Sims whatsoever; all you need is creativity and the game handles the rest. Building Tool =/= Development tool, which is what the G.E.C.K. is. Your comparison just highlights that you haven't actually done much with the G.E.C.K. at all. It's not a magical tool that churns out works of wonder in a matter of minutes. It requires competent modders and dedication to do anything worthwhile.

I don't intend to come off as cruel, overly-pessimistic, or as someone who gets kicks out of stamping out the promise of good projects. But I've seen several failed projects over the years in different modding communities, and all the right factors are set for this mod to crash and burn unless you come to terms with the impossibility of what you're doing and set REALISTIC goals for yourself. 100 quests (or even 70 or 50 or 40) is NOT a realistic goal, especially in so short a time frame.

Things are going fine but there was a problem with the computer so it may be Next week when we get to continue so just now we're planing out the quests and spreading the word. Thats also why we can't get screen shots just now.

You're going to have a mod with 100 new quests out in 2 to 3 months and you've just started planning them now? Yeah, right . . .

Listen, I'm not sure it'll be as big as you plan, but I still think you should give it a shot. :)

But it'll be hard, I'm not gonna lie.
There are people I know who've been modding for years and still can't master everything in the GECK required for this -_-

We should be encouraging this guy. I for one would love to see him come good on his word. And as poeple have pointed out, it wont be easy.

My 2 cents.

Skykappa, you are right, but at the same time you must know in your heart that he won't come good on his word.

How long did it take for you and your mates to create the 1+1=1 adventure mod? (which was awesome, by the way, except that the lovely lady at the end called me Shawn, but then again, the quest wasn't originally meant for me). I'm guessing a long, long time.

Now imagine that he is claiming that he can create one hundred of equivalent quests in less than two months. It boggles the mind.

But yes, if he comes through, I'll sing hallelujah, and I'll know what I'll do during my next holiday. I don't have high hopes for the quality, though, considering the promotional poster...

Thanks much appreciated! It took us about 3 months to finish.

Your right of course, I dont expect that anyone could produce even 25 quests in 2 months even with a team unless every single detail was planned down to the letter by an experienced modder, but eventually with encouragement, who knows what someone with a love for Fallout can make, Something awesome I hope!

Realistically, for 100 quests, depending on the size of the team and combined knowledge, could be upwards of 6 months or likely more. But I think people need encouragement to find the commitment to finish something that takes that long.

Go for it I say!!!! Show us what you can accomplish in 2 months.............................................. but if its a sham... Curse you!!!

I agree with Skykappa, after all, what he wants to do is to create a fun quest mods that entertains the community. and we are not paying him or anything. If he and his team fails, that is their problem. I wish that all modders and people who just started to mod get many support from us.

and sooner or later, if the modder doesnt realize how uneasy the GECK works (especially for starters) they will feel. and they will learn.

This does not look too bad at all, keep working but I can guarentee(don't know if I spelled it correctly) you that most people are going to flame against
this mod because there is no proof of a mod even being developed. Good luck dude.

I'll tell you what. When and if you have actual in-game progress to show, with screen shots and video, then come back and post a proper WIPz thread.

Mod threads announcing huge, game-changing mods with nothing available to back up those statements (such as the aforementioned screenshots and videos, or perhaps prior proven mod releases) tend to go like this one - pretty much downhill.

As for your fan site, please feel free to post the information in the pinne Fallout Fansites and Forums thread.
