What Should Should I look for..

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 8:31 am

Well I am almost finished paying my ps3 in Rent A Center, and because I have good credit in it they are letting me get a laptop for only 25$ a week instead of the regular 40 a week, now I want to get a laptop that will be able to play Oblivion, the only thing is that the only Information that you get on the Laptop is the sticker it has close to the keyboard, most of the laptops that I saw had 2-4 gigs of ram, now the issue here is that I have no idea about what to look for, I believe that they have the name of the video card in the sticker, Is there a certain Video Card that I should look for? What brand of laptop should I get? What Should I look for in the sticker to make sure that It will be able to play Oblivion, I know that they will let me return it and get another one but its a hassle to do it and I will prefer just to get the laptop without any of the paper work of returning it. Oh yea is the "bigger is better" idea work for laptops? I think I saw a rather big laptop with around 400 of hard drive space.

Hope that you guys understood what I was asking lol, I have a tendency to ramble :P, I'll be going to get a laptop this friday.

How much do you wish to spend? If in another country other than USA, state currency and country you reside in.

Video card is MOST important when buying a notebook for gaming because it likely cannot be changed once you get it.

Asus, Toshiba, MSI, and Lenovo distributes some decent gaming notebooks in Brick and Mortar stores. Then there are Clevo-based notebook distributors like Sager and XoticPC that have really high-end stuff through online sources...there's a lot more to choose from online.

Size of the notebook is user preference..."bigger is better" argument doesn't always work here. One thing though is not to get a large notebook with a high resolution only to have a craptastic video card that becomes crippled at the resolution in games.

Money does not really matter, in rent a center it usually takes a year to pay off something, so it will come out to 1,000 or 1,500 in the end, what graphics card should I look for?
The laptops came out in 2009/2010 So I think the video cards should be rather new. What video card names should I look for in the sticker that they have?

For that budget...

CPU: Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processor.
RAM: 4GB at least.
HDD: 7200RPM hard drive if possible.

GPU: Nvidia GeForce 260M GTX, 360M GTX, or 460M GTX.....or....Mobility Radeon 5850 or 5870.

The only one left was
Toshiba Satellite L455D-S5976 - Sempron 2.1 GHz - 15.6″ - 2 GB Ram - 250 GB HDD, I checked in system requirements lab and it passed but did not tell me how much because it has windows 7.
I got it its going to end up at 750$ at 25$ a week, not a bad deal.. I think.

Its a pretty bad deal, that laptop is actually going for http://us.toshiba.com/computers/laptops/satellite/L450/L455D-S5976 Aging CPU, slow HDD, and very slow video chipset......its not at all made for games. It will run.....at low settings for an acceptable framerate.

Really?, Im playing on high right now and there is almost no lag, as for the price It always cost more in rent to own but you don't pay everything up front.

It depends on what you consider "acceptable FPS". I prefer 30+ atleast in this game. I played on a ATI 3200 chipset for a bit on medium and it was terribly slow when I was in the wilderness.

Are you still in the tutorial dungeon ?? -- the game details do not really start until after exiting the sewer so you'll see what happens then ! (inside areas are much easier on the system than once you get outdoors or in the cities) -- For $750 you could do much better !

Rather unfortunate you're paying that much for such a poorly specced notebook. Should have asked here first before jumping the gun and just buying it. Even for $750, you should have gotten SO MUCH more. Examples:

Its running well actually, been playing L4D, Mass Effect, The sims 3 and Oblivion with out any problem with the graphics set to medium, I did not have a choice actually, since I did not have enough money to buy a laptop, thats why I went to rent to own, since you pay per week and not all at once, im rather poor and I really needed a laptop since im taking online classes, the other laptops were 50$ per week way to much money for me :(
