What will the "cannon" ending of Fallout : New Vegas

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:33 am

What I don't get is how all these tribes and towns in the wasteland find the concept of reunification and restoration of the American state such a foreign concept, I mean, wouldn't that be kinda a high priority for a lot of people after a nuclear war and the downfall of civilisation? To restore the old world.

The values of the old world killed it.

What, so because the old world used nuclear weapons it renders all of it's values worthless?

Successful dictatorship over Bureaucracy any day. This is indeed the story of Rome.

First, see fattoler’s excellent post just below yours…

Now, I’d just like to emphasize a couple of points:

That advanced, MOST ADVANCED, civilization in the world developed under the Roman REPUBLIC, not under a dictatorship.

Also, it is a testament to the greatness of Roman Bureaucracy (developed under the Roman REPUBLIC) that the Roman state endured such dictators as Tiberius (paranoid child molester), Caligula (bootsy the mad), Nero (the Beast from the Book of Revelations), Domitian, Commodus (star of the movie Gladiator :P ) and the horde of nameless reprobates that came after.

On topic again:
I think it might be fun if the Legion won after all.

J. Sawyer is a history major and should know full well how badly things would be apt to go after Caesar’s death.

I think it could be interesting and instructive to see what a hellhole the Mojave would be under the rule of Lanius, or more likely the chaos of a dozen little successor legions battling for supremacy.

The concept of unification might be foreign because of the fact that alot of these places compete and conflict with either for resources and goods. This happens in real life too, remember the Dark Ages in Europe?

Snowball's chance in Hell, maybe- nearly everything about the BoS quests was about how they're mired in their own dogma, and doomed because they flatly refuse to change. I'd say future canon chronicling their near-total extinction, with a very few members throwing out the Codex and starting a new, viable group under another name and belief system wouldn't be completely out of the realm of possiblity.

The eastern BoS?

The Boomers win.

Well if they can be wielded correctly the Boomer will make any county that absorbs it extremely powerful due to that bomber of theirs.

I'd bet on House, though I'm not sure why. Most likely there won't be a canonical ending, since we probably won't revisit New Vegas.

There has to be.

You cant just pretend that what happened in New Vegas never happened. If you dont say who won the Battle of Hoover Dam then how can you continue to make a game with factions from this area. You cant just go guess what there never wa a Caesars Legion adn NCr continued to expand. You have to say so it will set the base for future games. Of course if you just carry on then in the next game we would knwo based on whther there still was an NCR or not, factions involved, and setting.

Or they could set the game so far away from Vegas that it wouldn't make sense for us to get the truth of the battle anyway. (If they do that then I might just quit the Fallout Series because if they're not gonna man up and decide on a canon ending then I won't bother with the lore if it's just gonna be filled with a bunch of "what if's".)

Damn good point! Especially with a good karma ending for the FO3 the east side BOS can emerge as the most dominant faction given a few decades.

Caesar's Legion is neither of these, Caesar is no better than Czar Nicolas II or Kaiser Wilhelm II, his legion is a joke compared to the Roman Empire's, many don't even have firearms. Ironically the 'barbarians' (NCR) are MORE ADVANCED than the faux-Romans, oh sure, the Legion are well motivated and have numbers, but so did the Gauls and Dacians who were massacred by the disciplined Roman Legions. As for the civilian part, the Legion does not have bath-houses, arches, and amphitheatres, just petty mockeries.

If the Glory that was Rome was God, Caesar's Legion is Blasphemy.

That's grossly unfair to Kaiser Bill and his cousin Nicky...neither were particularly good Monarchs but they weren't monsters like "Caesar". And if you dropped the Second Reich...or even to make it fairer only one of the Lander such as Bavaria....into the Fallout universe even with their early 20th century tech they would roll right over both the NCR and the CL at the same time.

The NCR reminds me more of the Roman Republic than...as you rightly put it...the mockery of Rome implemented by Caesar.

I apologise, but sometimes It's difficult to cover all bases ;). I know neither men were monsters I was simply comparing their self-appointed titles of Caesar (Kaiser and Czar both translate as Caesar) as an attempt to both amplify their importance and replicate the glory of Rome, despite the fact that both lacked the skill of Augustus Caesar and neither empire of their would overshadow Rome's...

Yes I know there were many good emperors, it just that Augustus was the one most people associated with Rome's Greatness due to the fact that he was the first. As I said earlier, I did classics.
