BETHESDA, THIS IDEA MIGHT MAKE YOU HAPPY!

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 3:58 am

haha, my first viewer!!! ok, so at some point in Skyrim, a hooded man approaches you. he tells you hes been " watching" you, and that you are one of the best heroes he has seen. he tells you of an ancient tournament, closed to outsiders. BUT!!! he knows how to reopen the portal, and sends you on a quest. he says that a hero had helped close the plane, but had died and was buried in a tomb. you have to reach his burial place and retrieve a soul gem, containg his power to open up the portal. after you bring it to the hooded man, he opens up the plane to the tournament, and you both go inside.....and BEHOLD!!! an ancient and magical land, home to fierce arena competitors! fighting in an arena, with armor and weapons forged from magical ice( like in morrowind-sostheim), they are known as the " Glaciators". you enter the competition, and u soon make frienship with a female glaciator( name undecided). soon though u realize that the man who helped open the portal was using you. he was using an ancient and powerful soul gem to capture the power of his slain combatants, fueling his power. the only way to stop him is to go to champions peak, and gather the power of buried heros who died in the arena. once you collect the souls, you are faced with a challenge: your friend tried fighting the hooded man, and lost. half alive, she asks that you use your new found power to kill the man. but, he offers you that, in exchange for killing her instead, he will let you rule the land as your own. you can choose to kill either one, and become the greatest glaciator to ever live!!!

So basically, its an arena DLC with a story. I really want to talk to bethesda about it :)

A few problems: What if you're a mage? Or a Thief-class character? Where is this realm- it can't be an Oblivion realm. And why "Glaciator"? Why would the Hooded Man simply allow you to rule the realm he wanted you to get into so badly (and presumably lords over already.) If the tournament is closed to outsiders, wouldn't most of the Gladiators/spectators want to beat your head in the second you waltz on in? If everybody wants to win, why would you have any friends among the "Glaciators," especially if said "Glaciators" would presumably be hostile to any outsider? Why do you need to stop the Hooded Man in the first place? Why should you care?

ProTip- If you think you have the greatest idea ever, it probably isn't. Especially if you haven't asked anybody else.

As I said in your last thread, even great ideas aren't likely to be used by Bethesda unless it was designed in-house.

bethesda, i have two more things to discuss( currently). 1st, i thought in oblivion it was cool to make potions. but i was disappointed to find i couldnt make beer or wine. it would be really cool if u let players make their own alcohol, or at least bring back moonsugar so we can create skooma.

2nd, i have another idea. its a quest. i havnt thought of the entire quest story, but in it there is a new guild recently created. somehow, they end up being destroyed, which leaves the guild without members or a leader. someone offers to let you become the leader, but advises you pick a new name. so you get a list of guild names, pick one, and voila! you now have yur own guild. Then u can pick what type of guild it is( thieves, mages, fighters, assassins, etc). u get to go around adding members to it, and possibly give them certain jobs each day? maybe they can follow u and help fight? please, tell me what you think. u guys inspire me sooo much, hope to hear from you. :)

As Marss said, it's unlikely that Bethesda would take quest ideas from random forumgoers.

Still, if you're getting the PC version, you may be able to create them yourself.

well, im sorry that im only 16 and have ideas. and im sorry that i didnt mention EVERY detail about the Glaciators. why are they called " Glaciators"? because they are gladiators that fight with magical ice weapons and armor. why do they mind you entering the realm? because once you wear the armor your forced to fight until you die. its a trap for heroes. the hooded man tricked them, but they managed to drive him out of the realm and close it. so he uses you to reopen it. why are u friends with the gir? because it lets you choose the decision to kill her or the man. why does he offer for you to rule? i because he knows that he will die if he fights you cause youve collected the hero souls. happy? that should explain everything. :)

Isn't this more or less the setup of that one arena mod for Morrowind, except a lot more cringe-inducing?

Several years ago, when I was a fairly new fan of The Elder Scrolls, I had some 'amazing' ideas. I even tried to propose a couple of them, including what I believed would be an awesome quest about hunting Daedra, to the folks at Tamriel Rebuilt. I got shot down quite brutally. For a while, I was annoyed. Then, I actually began reading some of the game lore at The Imperial Library website and in the lore section of this forum. I realized that my 'awesome' idea really wasn't very awesome after all.

The reason I bring this up is that your post will also probably face one of two possible outcomes: either you will be brutally shot down, or you will be ignored. My advice to you is to take this as a learning experience. Research the world that the games create (that means learning words like Lorkhan, Hrothgar, and Numidium), then use that information to refine your ideas into something that blends into the existing world and looks like it always belonged there. What you should aim for is not a generically cool gladiator tournament in another dimension that happens to be based in Skyrim; instead, you should aim for something so deeply rooted in the history and culture of Skyrim that it could not possibly occur anywhere else. I hope that makes sense.

Also, be prepared to mod yourself if you are serious about your ideas. That's the only real way to prove that you are serious and that your ideas work, especially to a large company like Bethesda.

I agree. OP, have you considered modding? It would be a good way for you to present your ideas exactly how you envision them in the form that they are meant to be presented, being gameplay form, instead of a jumbled wall of text. Then people could play it, tell you what they liked, what they didn't like, etc.

Still doesn't explain why the Hooded Man approaches a MAGE or a THIEF to fight in said arena. As in, magic-casters and backstabbers/arrow flingers, both of which would be hindered in heavy armor. There's also no explanation as to what the seperate realm is- and how are there still hero souls in Champion's Peak if he's been taking said souls upon each warrior's death in the arena. If he can do that, he surely would be able to capture them in Champion's Peak. And if he's been using the souls of heroes as power, how were the heroes able to force him out of his realm in the first place? And, presumably, there would only be 1-2 heroes left in the plane when you arrive back since the armor forces them to fight until they die- and when the Hooded Man is gone, there's only each other to fight.

As for him letting you run the place? Doesn't make sense- its HIS realm, and if he's amoral enough to take the souls of heroes, he's probably not going to allow some upstart take it all away from him without a fight to the death.

Bud, let me help you out here. Perhaps this could be a mod. And this could be a Realm of Oblivion, perhaps one of Sanguine (who doesn't love a party at the arena). See Shivering Isles.
@I Am The Walrus: That was pretty mean FYI...

I think you've got some great ideas, but I'm saying this non-sugar coated. Sometimes the ideas you think are great, really aren't. Now wait, this could be a good idea as a mod, but for a canon DLC, I have to disagree, buddy. It's nothing against you or the fact that you're a young fan (I'm 15), I just have to advise that you think it out a little more, okay?

Nice effort! Its a very rough draft, but I think it would work alright as a mod. It sure beats a bunch of the random fluff available atm.

Well, I'm 16 as well, and I cringed a bit when I read "Glaciators". Why ice? Who is the hooded [censored]?

Refine your idea, dude.

Well damnit I'm 17, and thusly rule over all you little twerps. So, so young.. You think you have the right to use your imagination? Turn 17 and we'll talk.

Anyway, I kind of like this idea. Refine the crap out of it, remove the friend aspects, throw in some unique armor and artifacts, make it lore friendly and I'm all for it being DLC.

I wouldn't buy this. Not to say that it's a horrible idea or whatever, just not DLC worthy. Why dont you consider modding it? You could practice with oblivions construction kit until Skyrim is released.

It reminds me of like the DLC the pitt for Fallout, like an arena sort of expansion, I like the idea, but as people put above, remove some of the friendship etc and add some new twists I think you should back on the lore and the culture around Skyrim and maybe adjust it to that :) was good to read though but the way you wrote it as well made it sound very linear as DLC.

Use the suggestions for the game thread, if you want it in the game.

And the line from the forum rules you apparently didn't read:
