About interpolation

yesterday i was playing at some server,than a player called sdub get in the server, his ping was like 11
joking, i told him that ping 11 should be considered cheat, and he replies me that high ping is better than low ( i was getting ping 270 ), i say "no, it is not" . then he asked me if i know what is interpolation server side.. in fact, i played another game at professional level, and i know what is it, , we changed interpolation (client side) of each ping we get, and sometimes happened what we called "interp shot" , when ur enemy aim close to u, but hits u. anyway this was never considered an advantage, cuz if u have low ping, u see first, start shotting first and can move first... BUT ..games are diferent, so i get curious about it

in my experience playing this game (http://c2stats.com/pc/p_Jax_BR), i never felt an advantage on high ping, but i see a big advantage with low pings, i do not play CQB against extra low pings, it seems unfair to me

anyone have more technical information about interpolation on crysis2?

if someone agree with sdub opinion, can we know why?

somebody already made a controled "test" , shooting with low ping against high?

all opinions are welcome, i want to learn a bit more about this game

All I'm going to say about this, is that high ping has a definite advantage, but the one you had (270) is already too high for it to be useful. Infact, CQB with auto weapons is exactly what higher pingers benefit from. But 11 against 270, 11 wins bigtime.

so why u think that high ping have advantage? and we are talking about how much? 100 against 10 ?

when i get those super low pings, like 20 or 30, (hard to happen) i feel the advantage over ping 200, but is easier to understand.
what i already do not understand well, is WHY higher ping could be better..

i want test it someday and record, at private server, and see the results

just speaking from experience, high ping is never good. Unless you (with high ping) get a jump on an enemy, they have 260 additional milliseconds to scrub you into the ground. I've lost so many fights while playing on foreign servers because a second shotty blast or melee didn't register before i died.

I always believed that lower ping is better, but when I play on server where i have high ping, I have easier games... and when people with high pings play against me, i don't like it...

High ping is always bad and never good.High ping only sometime give u advantage but most of the time it will get you killed.700 and 600 plus hours in c2 and bf3 has taught me this.

I hate high pingers because you always get shot around corners if the hit reg is client side. Server side hit reg like in UT is so much better
I'm going to go as far as to say that even BF2 had better hit reg than, say, BF3.

Those 2 sentences don't make sense together, and you're incorrect. No matter what you feel, interpolation is a new feature of video games implemented to make high ping players have an easier time playing on a server that is far away from their current position. Both of the games you mentioned employ client side interpolation, where the client (the player) interpolates (assumes) where players are based on client information. Ever wonder why you always get killed in battlefield when you've rounded a corner? Because the person shooting you has a higher ping and from his/her POV you are still not behind cover because of their delayed reaction due to a higher latency.

High ping in older games was always awful, games have changed now to cater to this.

Sdub: I saw once your sensei leaving a 200+ ping sever saying lag so please explain to me again what you are saying? plus come to a Aussie sever I don't mind taking you when you having 250 something I would always prefer low ping over high ping

Rofl says the guy who never played in high ping sever and plays only in server where he gets 20 ping.Plz go play in servers where you get 200 ping against quality players not noobs which you most often do ,then come and post here.Becoz if there aim is any good you will be smoked.Dsg reflex is the only weapon which doesn't get affected by ping.Any automatic gun showdown low ping wins all the time.As i said high only helps if you have extreme ping like 500 plus.Then you teleport and gain advantage.10vs200 ping give me 10 ping any day.

What i find funny is that ,these low ping players wil kill high ping guys all the time thinking how pro they are but as soon as some high ping guys kill them in 1vs1 they will start biching about there ping.One of the drama queens of this forum used to do that when i played against him not gonna name him though.

Happens all the time for me. Except that in my case it's more like DSG shot.

Interpolation is not a new fature, it is old as counter strike. and ur right when u explain how it works, but, "make high ping players have an easier time playing on a server that is far away from their current position" ...is quite diferent to say that high ping is always better.

everibody already notice that crysis2 is no that exigent on ping like other games. maybe the "new" interpolation of this game helps on that

and im not convinced that high ping could be better, if so , why do u play on servers with ping 10?

Cooldud, you're always incapable of arguing without getting into a verbal war. If you're trying to convince me of a point, I don't care anymore, cause you've insulted me. Go read the book How to Win Friends and Influence Enemies. And come on...DSG-1 is the only weapon that doesn't get affected by ping...if anything it gets effected the most (other than the awful Gauss) because it's reliant on pin point accuracy as opposed to an automatic which can spray in a general area and when you're shooting at a target that is interpolated or extrapolated (depending on the game) in the wrong spot, you will miss every time. It's the worst gun to use against high ping players.

Jax_BR, you're right, it isn't a new feature, it's just been implemented differently. I read a few articles on server side and client side interpolation and extrapolation and both parties are hurt in the process (the player and his enemies). It makes it so the ping disadvantage isn't so heavy against the person with the high ping, by somewhat transferring some of that difficulty to the person with low ping.

Fail!Go play in high ping server then post here..I have played online games more than you.And have played in both high ping and low ping server.Unlike you who only plays in 10 ping server.


Take russians for example.They are in godmode when they play in 10 ping server in RU.As soon as they play in 100 ping server they become mortals again.Low ping like less than 20 gives anyone huge advantage in this game.


Already forgot how your team started bichng about ping in Efps final and forced us to play in US server.
