Apocalypse Movies

Is this the right section for this topic?

Anyway, a little while ago I decided I hated myself and watched 3 of the most depressing animated(and possibly all) movies that exist: The Plague Dogs, which a couple scenes can be found in my signature. Where The Wind Blows, and Grave of The Fireflies.

Two of these movies are about the apocalypse.

Where the Wind Blows: A movie about a quirky, British retiree couple. And them going through Nuclear War and convinced until the end that the government, who they have unquestionably obeyed, will rescue them. Until they slowly die of radiaton poisoning and end with them praying for death. Did I mention that they think it is just like the Blitz and are increasingly confused that there is no television or mail, at the same time it shows that they are exposed to fallout.

Grave of The Fireflies: Anime about two lovable children caught in Hiroshima. There mother dies in the blast, and they eventually starve to death. Not much more you can say about that.

Now, what's your apocalypse movie? Famous, obscure, good, bad. All types! Maybe leave a plot description like what I did.

I look forward to reading about them.

Mad Max series is the best Fallout Movie series ever. The 1st one is when Max, a cop has to deal with the Anarchy going around in Austrailai as raider gangs roam the highways killing anyone. 2 is after the bombs drop, he is a drifter with his dog, and finds a settlement threatened by raider gang because it has a oil well to fuel there vehicles. 3 is how he is much older and and ecounters BarterTown, the firs true civilization he has saw in a longtime and get in a mishap with them.

There are others i like but this is my fav

Yea, I really like the Mad Max movies. And OMG I remember watching Where the Wind Blows a long time ago, what a depressing movie!

Here are a few cool movies that fit the genre:

Doomsday

When a deadly viral epidemic breaks out in present-day Britain, killing hundreds of thousands of people, the government quarantines the infected behind a walled city -- only to be confronted with a resurgence of the disease 30 years in the future. In the vein of Mad Max and 28 Days Later, this morality tale veiled as a sci-fi hypothetical features enough action, combat and suspense to keep audiences wondering, "What if?"

The Day After

The story follows several citizens and those they encounter after a nuclear attack on Kansas City, Missouri. The narrative structure of the film is presented as a before and after scenario with the first half introducing the various characters and their stories. The center section is the nuclear disaster itself. The latter half of the film shows the effects of the fallout on the characters.

9

9 is a sentient rag doll who appears to be the last of his kind, living in the ruins of a decaying, post-apocalyptic Earth.

Escape from L.A. and Escape from New York

Snake Plisskin baby! Great movies! :)

The Postman

Although I don't like Kevin Costner, this was a pretty good movie!

On the Beach (1959)

The story is set in a future 1964, in the months following World War III. The conflict has devastated the northern hemisphere, polluting the atmosphere with nuclear fallout and killing all life. While the bombs were confined to the northern hemisphere, air currents are slowly carrying the fallout south. The only areas still habitable are in the far southern hemisphere, like Australia.

You know I hadn't seen "Grave of the Firelies" yet, thanks for the spoiler.

You know when you describe a movie you don't have to describe the ending...

Anyway...

The Postman huh? A lot of people say that movie svcks, only not as much as Waterworld.

I remeMber watching it, thinking it was OK, thought the ending svcked though

"Children of Men" is a Damn Good Movie in my Book.

It's kind of hard to follow and the backdrop isn't well explained (though accoridng to the Director that was intentional).

The Road is excellent. It's very dark and looks at a post-apocalyptic world through a very gritty and realistic eye.

I highly suggest it.
