Race Re-rolls

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 3:38 pm

Is it me or does it seem like there were far more racial changes from Oblivion to Skyrim than there was from Morrowind to Oblivion? Such as the nerfing of Argonians. I also love how Altmer were looked at as "easy fights" in Oblivion (At least I never took them as a serious threat) . They were a nose in the air snooty group of know it all mages at best. Then in Skyrim they are made into an oppressive super power bent on human inferiority. And that is only a few of the bigger changes I have noticed myself. Anyone else have they're favorite race cut down and they're most hated built up?

I've been a huge fan of Argonians since Daggerfall and I thought their set-up in Skyrim was great. Most Argonians were in the underclass, but then any Argonian staying in a frigid climate likely doesn't have the means to move on.

And the Altmer have always been powerful, it's just that elves in general were kind of silly in Oblivion.

Let's blame the strength boost on Altmer on the Levitation Act.

You know, if most people have forgotten how to fly, they have to climb up those towers on foot, and for 200 years they kept climbing, even their traditional Phynaster steps cannot stop them.

I feel as if pre-skyrim argonians would whoop skyrim argonians any day. They were immune to poison, highly resistant to disease and could breathe underwater(which was awesome before all the warriors of tamriel had a meeting on taking a break from their fight when in water). I loved argonians in TES 3 and 4 but feel they have had all of their "perks" taken away other than waterbreathing. I'm pretty sure you know what side of the stick argonians have gotten.

Yeah, except Argonian perks have always been pretty useless. Big loss.

This. Nobody cares that Altmer aren't immune to paralysis anymore because seriously who uses paralysis.

Not a huge change, but I really like that the Dunmers' Ancestor Guardian power in Morrowind and Oblivion became Ancestor's Wrath in Skyrim. Given that the physical remains of an ancestor serve as a focus for the ancestral spirit in structures like ghost fences, it makes sense that the form of a summoned ancestor ghost would be directly linked to the preservation of that ancestor's remains. So before the events of the Red Year you would be able to summon a ghost that looked like a person, but after the Red Year (and the incineration of many tombs, etc) all you can summon is fire...

I haven't got around to playing Dunmer yet, but that's a pretty boss way of looking at it.

I am disappoint by the new racial skill distributions. It removes complexity.

Given that Skyrim axed how many skills out of the game, its no surprise that the races get some strange skills to replace skills that traditionally made a certain level of sense. You can only distribute so many skills to each race and make them different. Kinda sad really.
