ANYWAYS... I found a thing that said to reinstall the Drivers, so I reinstalled the HD thing.. the other one was in Zip dform and I had no Idea what to do for it.. I was also told not to get the Realtek soundback. I am playing the game as an administrator and on Vista, Service pack 2... I've also tried Windows XP Service pack 3

Card name: Intel? G45/G43 Express Chipset

^^^THAT is the problem. This is not a Realtek issue....this is a lack of a supported video card issue. No Intel Graphic Chipset will run this game out of the box.

Your PC is a tiny slimline PC that can take low-profile based video cards. Since you have the option to upgrade, I highly suggest you to do it. This card will work well with your system and its puny power supply:

Even better is the Radeon 5570:

Just found out a few days ago that it was actually a Windows 7 problem... There was a fix online for it.. funny how alot of the problems Bethesda won't clean up, other people are.. oh.. and my comp runs the game almost perfectly. I only have problems in certain cities.. rarely ever a dungeon.. although when it does hit, it's very annoying. just thought I'd get that Windows 7 is a problem out there. (incase you guys didn't already know or whatever.. and I missed something)

Actually, it may not have been a Windows 7 problem at all.

This online 'fix', did it involve downloading a DLL file and placing it in the game folder? If so you're putting your sytem at risk by forcing the game to run on hardware that isn't capable of running it. (Thats why you are getting those problems) Because you are putting undue stress on your system, you are risking overheating and burning out the hardware.

Many, many people are running the game on Windows 7 without resorting to unstable, unsupported and unreccomended workarounds. Claiming that Windows 7 is 'a problem' is verging on misinformation.

I'm fully aware of the DLL fix if that's what you used, but I don't suggest it to people that do have the option to upgrade to a real video card, which you do.

I've been having problems with the game crashing especially when indoors. (i own the game of the year addition if it matters)
I run a HP Pavilion Elite e9260f with:
Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit
Core-i5-750 (L) 2.66 GHz (95W)

Chipset
Intel P55 Express
Motherboard

*
Manufacturer: MSI
*
Motherboard Name: MS-7613
*
HP/Compaq motherboard name: Indio-UL8E

Power supply

*
350W
Memory Installed 8 GB

*
1 TB SATA 3G (3.0 Gb/sec)
*
7200 rpm

Video Graphics
GeForce GT230

* 1.5 GB memory
* I/O Ports: DVI-I (single-link or dual-link), HDMI and VGA

High Definition 8-channel audio

* ALC 888S chipset

And im wondering if its the same problem that he was having and where i can find the fix he did if it is because right now the game is pretty much unplayable.

thanks for your help.

The MOST IMPORTANT PART of a Gaming PC is its real, actual, discrete 3D video graphics CARD (a separate circuit board that plugs into the video bus add-on slot in the desktop's mainboard).

Since the latest comment added here initially omitted mention of any such, I suggested that such a system isn't game-worthy, and required replacement or an upgrade, if it's a desktop PC. (Laptops, almost universally, offer no option for CPU / GPU upgrades. )

What are you talking about? There are several chips that can play Fallout no problem. All the graphics "cards" that have an "M" after them are all "Mobile" graphics CHIPS. IE, the GT360M is a chip, not a card, and is MORE then able to nearly max Fallout.

Laptops may have either an onboard chip that is normally buried within a large chip called an ASIC, and has the nicknames "Northbridge" and "Southbridge" applying to those chipset chips, or they may have a discrete add-on card that is produced on a separate production line and only added near the end of the laptop's assembly. More recently, some laptops with Intel i3 processors have the onboard chip included inside of the CPU's package.

The message in question has no mention of "Mobile" technology that I observed. If I am supposed to care what HP calls one or another of its models, be aware I could care less. I started building my own systems twenty years ago, and with only a few exceptions, when I assigned the chore to a white box builder, so I always have custom PCs.

I will look up the "GT230", which I suspect is strictly an OEM designation, and see where it fits in the performance range, but I never encourage laptop owners to play the better games on anything similar to the more ordinary of laptops. They will just have too many problems.

(New Edit here) As best as I can determine, the GT 220 is better than the GT 230, and most 230s may be Mobile cards. The GT 220 doesn't compare well to the GT 240, sitting near the bottom of the class, near the border zone with Low End cards such as the G.210 and the 8400 / 9300, and given an even poorer performance indicated for the 230, it's not going to be anything special compared to this game's graphics requirements, which actually aren't very strenuous at all.

The system is a desktop and the card is not integrated into the motherboard. i also shoulda said that I've never had any problems running any other games at the highest graphics setting and i cant even run fallout3 at its lowest.

i dont know to much about half of what you said but my main question was if it was a compatibility problem with windows 7 from what ive been able to find from Google and what my brother has said alot of people have had problems with the game running on win 7. i have tried running it in compatibility mode for both vista and xp and it still freezes every time im inside unless i run through rooms really fast. As far as i remember its only crashed once or twice when im outside. but then again i probably am not remembering correctly lol.
if it comes down to it 100% being the graphics card im not willing to go out and buy a new one just for this game when i can run others maxed out and have no lag and a great frame rate

The only other game that is comparable is the TES - IV Oblivion game. Both use Bethesda's own Gamebryo system, which forgoes some potential for code efficiency because of the included Construction Set, to avoid excessive conflicts with add-in Modules. Nevertheless, as already asserted, Fallout 3 has rather generously low grahics requirements, as long as you match your settings to the capabilities of your hardware.

The minimum Geforce named is five years old now, and while it was a decent card back then, it's now in the Low Quality zone slightly below where the GT 230 would appear to fit in. Toms Hardware's quarterly VGA Charts will help place it among its better-publicized brothers for you, of course.

Return to Fallout 3
