REQ - Need 3ds Max export of 3d model!

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 3:45 am

I have a problem again with a very large mesh I made in Blender. Coliision doesn't work ingame. I have made several giant landmeshes and all worked fine, see for example the canyon I made for "New Ald Ruhn" WIP. But this one seems to be somewhat tricky. I have checked the mesh in detail and everything seems to be ok, no holes in the surface, no non-manifold edges, all normals pointing to the outside, collision detection set to "static triangle mesh" ...

I have tested the whole mesh as one piece, I did split it up into several single pieces, I gave the mesh a wireframe with collision by triangles, like vanilla meshes have, but nothing did help this time. I had such problems long time ago and back then just a simple clean export from 3ds max fixed the issue. I have max myself, but because of some reason the official nif exporter makes the program crash immediately!!! :(

Could one of you max users please just import and export the nif again, pleeeeeeeeease!!! :)

Perhaps you could try Gmax? You can still download it at Turbosquid and the NIF exporter at Niftools I think.

Thx, but I don't want to install and study another additional program, LOL!!! :) I will make max run in time, just need some little favour this time!!! ;)

EDIT: Problem solved!!! :) The issue wasn't caused by the giant mesh itself, but by all the other meshes, that were also contained in the same nif. It seems when you stick meshes together instead of joining them to one mesh, the game engine can only handle tis up to a certain amount. Well, got no better explanation at the moment!!! :)

I had made a giant model and pasted dozens of other models, like houses and tiles into the same nif. Suprisingly all the houses and other small parts did have collision ingame, except the giant mesh. Now in a single nif, the giant mesh, which is still the same model all of a sudden has collision again...

Gmax is basically equivalent to max 4 or 5 I think, all the tools and functions are exactly the same as 3dsmax, it is just a bit watered down. Discreet (Autodesk now owns 3dsmax) put out Gmax as a free counterpart to 3dsmax back in the day.

Otherwise I suppose I can try exporting it for you. Edit: Nevermind then. :P
