Randomly generated quests

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:06 am

Do you guys want randomly generated quests to be included in Skyrim? I think there should be a board in each guild that provides these quests, so you can still participate in the guild after you beat it's questline. Also there should be another quest board added to maybe each city for quests specific to the city.

Also quest boards related to the guild should contain quests that pertain to that guild. For example, the dark brotherhood would have tons of assassination quests.

These boards should display a variety of quests showing but should limited on how many quests you can do at a time, so the game isn't focused around these boards.

I'd like that. But I hope they'd be meaningful quests, not just go here/collect that, etc.

I wouldn't mind that, but I think monthly updates containing more quests would be pretty nice.

I think they would get repetitive. Deliver this to x, go here, bring me this, kill them. It would have to be the same basic quest, just with different items/locations/characters, and I think it would get old fast. I do like the board idea though, it would add a bit more content to the game.

It wouldn't have to be the same basic quests. Even Daggerfall had a pretty decent amount of variety beyond "kill/get/give X", even if "kill/get/give X" was the most common. Nowadays, it's entirely possible to do something far more complex, especially if the developer's willing to put the time in.

I think it'd be nice. Just gives you something to do with a guild when you ran out it's proper quest line. Felt kinda silly when you worked your way to arch mage and then never needed to do anything again.

I think they have their place in the game. Would have loved to see something like randomly generated heist or murder quests for the Thieves guild and the Dark Brotherhood after finish their respective quest lines. Maybe random bounties for the Fighters guild Mages guild as well, though I have no idea how hard is it to implement things like that.

It'd be great once you get to Arch Mage, Master, etc.

It would be neat having hand made quests and randomly generated quests. That way you'll always have work at a guild and won't run out, i.e. having a long-term 'career.'

I like this idea. But, as other people above me have said (names are classified as of 12//01/10), it may get boring.

Exactly what I'm getting at.

That, and even some to do outside of guilds, maybe for whatever castle or ruler there is in a given area, they could have tasks for you, ranging from getting stuff for their next ceremony, assassinating enemies (randomly generated NPC opposed to the quest giver), or retrieving stolen treasure, rescuing kidnapped royalty, etc.

Other things would be cool too, but a lot more complex. For example, if you were to secretly torch the crops of a village, they'd offer quest (granted they don't find out it was you) to help them get new good or new crops. Ambush a convoy, steal some stuff belonging to a powerful NPC. Don't get caught, go to the NPC and offer to get it back for them. Play both sides! Manipulate!

Randomly generated quests would be fun too. Only there should be a bit more complicated dungeons in Skyrim also. I am fully for dungeon crawl random quests.
Perhaps some kind more complicated random dungeon generator could solve that problem. Or am I too bold to suggest something like that?

Well, they should be completely optional. So it would not be hard to ignore them if its not your thing.

Not randomly generated ones but ones that require no voice acting at all would be nice.

I'm not a fan of the idea, just because I expect the kinds of quests that would be randomly generated to be shallow and boring. I don't think I would do more than a few, and that defeats the point of having them.

Randomly generated Dark Brotherhood Guild quests would still have to exclude NPCs that could be valuable in another quest, and Theives' Guild stuff would have similar parameters to exclude certain items or certain robberies (ones that would be impossible to complete). I'd be bugged if the game would add content/NPCs/items that wouldn't otherwise exist, too. It just seems more logical to me to expand the quests, or even have several questlines running for each major guild (an extensive main questline, and then a series of other questlines to complete at your own discretion and pace). I don't think it would be too hard to hand pick a bunch of NPCs to be assassinated for the Dark Brotherhood, for example, that are not associated with their main questline (and that those assassinations should keep you busy for a long while).

Also instead of randomly generated quests, I'd rather have objectives like collecting x number of a plant or killing so many marauders or highwaymen for the guilds after their main questlines have been satisfied.

I like the sound of this but maybe a load of not voiced quests, just text based ones so you can have more to do but less in production time (cause of voice work etc) and maybe updates down the line as DLC extras that are more city based quests that your like helping the town or city guards with the odd things.
