Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:02 am

I think it would be a great idea for them to make new version on fallout 1&2 it would be an easy way to make cash in the long run beacuase all they would have to do it make the game with better grafics and maybe a littile bit of gameplay updates beacuase tehy already have teh story line which is a hard thing to make a good one any one agree with me? :fallout:

And as one topic dies, another is born.

I ask you what would be the point either way. Veterans wouldn't see it as an improvement, and newcomers wouldn't care if it was a remake so much as another Fallout RPG/FPS to pass the time. In this case, Bethesda may aswell direct their efforts toward a fresh product, like Fallout 4.

I personally wouldn't care for a remake, as it's clear that anyone who liked the originals done so without needing amazing visuals to satiate their appetite. Neither would it affect me if such a remake exsisted, as I could take it or leave it as I saw fit.

No. No bloody remake. Leave the classics as they are.

(Already an open thread in this very sub-forum, http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=970799. Though it was all the way on page 3, so maybe it got overlooked...)

I'll say what I've said before: as one of the "die-hard" fans of the original games, I wouldn't be interested in any sort of remake that drastically changed the gameplay around (made it real-time or somesuch...) or did any updates beyond making it prettier and enhancing the interface a bit. If it was just an update (along the lines of what they did with Sid Meier's Pirates!, for instance,) then I might be interested, but I don't know how much money I'd actually pay for it. The thing is, I already own the original games (and they're readily available for cheap all over the place at the moment) so I probably wouldn't pay more than maybe $20 for a remake of both games. (Meaning $20 for a two-pack, not individually.)

That said, I don't see much point of doing an update unless you plan on bringing something new to the table. I don't generally understand the need to remake a game just with better graphics unless you're also updating the gameplay to some extent as well. Doesn't seem to me to be worth the effort - Pac-Man wouldn't be any more addictive with 3D graphics, for example. (And many times, messing with the original setup can often result in losing the "magic" of the original game - for example any Pac-Man game ever made since Mrs. Pac-Man...)

Like others have been saying, it seems to me that if you were really going to go through all the effort, you'd be better off just working on an entirely new Fallout instead of trying to remake the old ones. I don't think you'd really end up making all that much money off the project - I would assume that many people who are that interesting in seeing what the original games were all about could look past the arguable outdated graphics and interface (if you can't, then I can't imagine you cared that much about the history of the franchise to begin with.)

And if anyone was going to make a new Fallout game with the old gameplay but prettier graphics, I'd just as well prefer that they made an entirely new story instead of retreading old ground.

Just my opinion, of course - but I don't really see the need for it. There was some interview or another with one of the Devs where they said it was probably just a matter of time before someone put out a Fallout 3 Mod of the originals done in the Fallout 3 style.

Some people also don't seem to notice that FO3 is essentially a montage of the originals. There's little left for a remake.

You can go re-create F1&2 using the F3 engine if you want, as long as you don't use anything from the original game.

You hardly need a "Gaming" PC to play the originals... Just about any old clunker made this century will do it.

Nah, keep the original 2 FOs.

There are faults with the games, but it's not gfx or sound.
I would like full party control, cover and readied attacks, but the games are good enough to enjoy as is.

Have you played Fallout Tactics? If not, I have a feeling based on that comment, that you'd like it very much :)

The interfaces of Fallout and Fallout 2 are not console friendly at all. Essentially the polar opposite of the Fallout 3 interface which made me want to smite the developers for all of those ridiculous tabs, sub-tabs, and sub-sub-tabs.

Indeed, come on now, you don't need a monster rig to play the originals....just about anything with win95 on it will do...
