Can my computer run fallout 3

CAN A MOD PLEASE LOCK OR DELETE THIS

After playing fallout 3 on the xbox for 350+ hours, I've decided to get it for the PC for The G.E.C.K and mods, which im sure will svck more of my time into this
game ^_^
Also, terribly sorry about the wall O' text. :ahhh:

Firstly a couple questions if you dont mind.

I'll be getting a completely new computer soon, as the one I am currently using is older.
The computer im getting is a default Dell studio XPS 9100

I've been hearing Fallout 3 isnt compatible with windows 7 (Which is the OS for my new computer) Is this true? Is there a patch or fix for it currently?
If not, I could try to get XP as the OS, but I fear microsoft will shortly (If they have not already) abandon XP and start focusing on Windows 7.
Which would mean they would stop releasing Updates for it, so Im wondering If it would eventually become a hacker's paradise, with microsoft no longer upgrading security, patching "holes", ect, ect.

Second question, Is a duel OS system possible,
for example, when you start up your PC It asks whether or not you want to Run Windows 7 or XP.

the basic specs for the computer (What I know so far, I havent read to much into it yet.)
~Intel Core i7-920 processor (Is this a good processor for Running Fallout 3 along with The G.E.C.K and mods?)
~ 6 GB of memory, with a 1TB hard drive.
~ 1GB ATI radeon HD 5670 GDDRS (I understand that this isnt exactly the best I could get, so if some kind forumer could help my pick the best one for running fallout 3, from this list. http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_%28PC%29#System_requirements

Also, a stupid question maybe, but my last computer, couldn't be upgraded video card wise, for various reasons. and I just want to make sure the Dell studio XPS 9100 can be.

Also, i've heard the GOTY addition brings along its far share of bugs, not sure if this is true or not, so if someone could sort that it, that would be great.
Im getting the GOTY addition, as it would be incredibly cheaper, and it wouldnt have the hassle of downloading the add-ons from *Shudders* "It".

From what I understand the GOTY addition contains two disks, one with the DLC and one with the game,
If someone could link or post how one would go about Transfering/installing the DLC. that would be great.

Thats pretty much all my questions thus far, if someone could be so kind as too help. it would be greatly appreciated. :P

1. Although Fallout 3 doesn't officially support Windows 7, there's no reason why it shouldn't run.
2. You should be able to run the game on highish settings. You can configure the video card on the Dell site, right? Try getting something like a 5770, if the option is there.

There are many forum members here that are running the game fine on Windows 7. The official support isn't there, but it still should work.

Dual OS setup are possible. There are plenty of guides on the web on how to do this...google it.

The PC looks decent. CPU and RAM are more than sufficient. The Radeon 5670 can hold its own in this game....high settings is not too far fetched.

This PC should allow for future video card upgrades....the other component to be wary of when that video card upgrade time comes is your power supply. Make sure what you have is sufficient for whatever upgrade you choose.

I thank you guys for your input,
Im not looking for high-settings.
If I really had to, I would play on lowest with no complaints, but from your posts it sounds like I shouldnt have to do that lol :celebration:

You guys have no idea how much im looking forward to this lmao.
So, thanks again.

I DID have problems running Fallout 3 under windows 7
However I got it working.
Right click launcher and there is a COMPATIBILITY tab. Click that and it gives you options on what OS compatibility to operate under. I got it working on XP(sp3) mode. (AND the Ini fix in the Fallout.ini)
In the FALLOUT.ini find the line

bUseThreadedAI=0
change the 0 to a 1

then below it add the line

iNumHWThreads=2

Then Again you may not have to do anything. if the game freezes soon after starting then try this if it is a crash to desktop there is some other issue

It will, you just need to use the quadcore fix. (listed in Rao's post as the "Ini fix".) I have no problems running the game on a quadcore with that fix on Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 Beta x64.

Fallout3 will run fine with W7. You have to download and install Game for Windows-Live to9 make it work.
As for the processor if my Intel i-650 3.2 G runs it the i-920 will run it to but being a quard processor in your Fallout3 ini files find bUseThreadedAI=0 and type this 'bUseThreadedAI=1' then underneath 'iNumHWThreads=2'. It nothing to do with operating system. Its a line for your processor. For some reason Fallout3 will not run with quard processors. But Elders Scrolls IV Oblivion dose.
As for a graphics card if going to get ATI and later on they will be ADM, do not get anything lower then the 5770. I have the 4870 which runs a bit better then the 5770. I will call that a downgrade if I want to replace 4870 to a 5770. I would got the the 5850.
