Using TV as monitor, Fallout looks... Ugh.

Hi Guys,

I was recently given a free 26 inch HDTV by my cable company for joining for two years. I already have a TV so I decided to try and use it as a monitor. I have everything set up buy it doesn't look particularly good. Looks like the TV is advertised on the box/manual as a good gaming monitor to use with your PC but thus far the icons look huge on my screen, etc. Looks like the only 'good' resolution settings are 1360 by 768 -- Color quality Highest (32 bit), 60hz.

When I log into Fallout 3 the bottom and top 2 inches of my monitor screen aren't used at all and the characters, etc. look blocky and pretty crappy. Is anyone familiar with how to set this type of thing up? Or should I even bother? I wanted to use it as a monitor/xbox screen so I'd like to keep it if at all possible, but the way it looks now is horrible.

The TV/monitor is: http://www.dynexproducts.com/products/televisions/DX-26L150A11.html

And my video card is: http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/ati-radeon-hd-4000/hd-4850/Pages/ati-radeon-hd-4850-overview.aspx

Thanks for your help!

TV resolutions are pretty low compared to a actual PC monitor (unless you get it to run at 1920x1080 which is somewhat standard among PCs now). Is it only the game that looks bad, or is that way in the desktop as well, with the black bars at the top and bottom?

It's just the game that has the gaps on the top and bottom (like a movie kind of). The only way I can describe the way things look on a regular screen like my desktop or a webpage is like after your format your computer and haven't installed your video drivers yet. Like an 800x600 resolution 'look' to it. Granted it's not as bad as that, I would just rather have my icons smaller for instance. Just feels like I need to install drivers or do something in Catalyst Control Center (the video card settings program). But everytime I try a different resolution or force a new refresh the screen gets blurry. :(
