Porting files from Oblivion to Fallout

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:08 am

So, as title and description describes, I want to create Ayleid ruins for fallout, maybe even using ceanoes new meshes and textures. So, I think of using AranMathi mod for oblivion, couse it has the new textures and meshes already in the .esp, so I wouldn't need to download ceanoes texture replacement and assign every nif file myself. So is there any way to do what I want, or atleast port files from oblivion to Fallout?

I have heard that it is not possible to directly port objects from Oblivion to Fallout3, so to do this you will have to import the NIF's into a tool like Blender and build the objects back up with new materials. There is a tutorial from Artisten (currently mis-labelled as Bethesda) in the pinned thread atop the forum on the process. This would be long, and the animations would be very time consuming to port over, so while its theoretically possible it is not easy.

This is also not allowed, as it is expressly forbidden to port any resources over from Oblivion, or any other game for that matter.

If you make them from scratch, then it's okay.

Well I do not quite understand, for example, I know a way to port meshes and textures from one very popular MMORPG to Oblivion or Fallout, but have never actually used it in any released mods, cause I know that doing that is not allowed (copyright issues and stuff like that), but never thought that porting from the game of the same company would be illegal. Can I atleast port stuff from mods?

I think he said he was going to use mod resources; is that too not allowed?

Using stuff from mods of oblivion is technically allowed, tho you should get permission from the makers.

Not if the stuff from mods is an edited model from oblivion. Only 100% non Bethesda assets can be ported, with permission from their respective authors.

I doubt it, but out of courtesy of being asked not to, I personally wouldn't do it.

As far as these forums are concerned, you cannot take the assets from one game and use them in another, even if it is a BGS game. It doesn't matter whether you intend to share or not.
