Insert your character name here

Why do TES titles rarely use your character's name in-game? If we are playing the dastardly villain, why don't we see our name branded on 'wanted posters' plastered on town walls with a likeness based on our FaceGen efforts? Conversely, if we're the proverbial knight in shining armour, why don't we have a shrine named in our honour on one of the highways where we've perpetually saved peasants from marauding bandits?

What other ways can you think of to ensure your character's name lives on in the game world you inhabit?

Morrowind had several instances where your name was used; and in Bloodmoon your full name was actually used in a book (I believe it was part of the Thirsk questline).

Hoping to see more of that as it really made your character feel more alive :)

Okan, the Argonian Nightblade, prefers not to have his name so widely advertised.

As a child, I always played a sneaky, stealthy character. Daggerfall was usually played as a sneaky, dagger wielding Dunmer of various names. Later, I decided that the character to play was a boisterous, swashbuckling type, so I played a lot of Morrowind as quick Redguard by the name of Santiago.

Several identity issues later, I've played RPGs as all powerful magic users, roaring tank-like characters, primitive beast characters, typical rangers, etc. It seems lately I've settled on a jack-of-all-trades type character. This is the first playthrough. Later, I have more playthroughs with more specialized types.

I can actually see that happening. It would be really cool to see statues of me as well. But if they screw up the armor, I may just have to kill them.

It's one of the problems with voice-acting.
In Morrowind, you can use a simple text command to use the Player's name in any conversation. But you can't do that with voice-acting, so you start feeling nameless.

I want really my evil char to have NPC's flee from him at just the the sight of him, terrorfied and if children are in the game they should cry. Just like IRL...

Yep, so we're back to seeing our name in books or scrolls. One could even go all dynamic though and have a plaque on the statue of the hero (you) that simply takes the letters of your name and transfers them in Daedric rune tiles (or regular letters). Then they'd just need to make 26 texture tiles with one rune/letter each. But I don't expect anything like that, yet it would be cool. ;)

In Bruma after you close the great gate they have a statue of you that looks like what your character was wearing during the battle...

Nope, it actually showed you with the best equipment in your inventory, which most people didn't like. 'Cause most were wearing the gray cowl of nocturnal and holding up some kind of enchanted dagger, or holding a staff while you don't even use magic.
