Good Fallout Style Movies (Post Apocalypse)

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:10 am

"Dr Strangelove" isn't really post-apocalyptic but I think it definitely fits with the Fallout universe. It shows the kind of bizarre thinking that would allow an apocalypse to occur in the first place. Characters write off the deaths of millions of people as "acceptable losses" and make ever more frantic and unrealistic plans to "ride out" the imminent nuclear holocaust. If you want to know how the Enclave thinks or what they were thinking when the Great War started, you could do worse than Dr Strangelove.

Just watched it on youtube had nothing better to do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97Rnn8MGat8

When I read about Stanley Kubrick and actors like Peter Sellers I thought I have to see this one.

"No fighting in the war-room!"

Hah, just watched A Boy and His Dog :D

And it's awesome, anyone who haven't checked it, do it now. It might be old but it is awesome in so many ways, and very funny sometimes.

Has anybody ever seen the movie Knights? 1993, Kris Kristofferson and Kathy Long. Kickboxer chick goes up against the cyborgs that kidnapped her brother. That movie was so trashy it was good again.

And I will also suggest Resident Evil 4. just cos Milla Jovovich is in it. God I love her. *sigh*

28 Days Later had me scared for weeks! (I'm not into horror, just survival horror games. Go figure...)

And most definitely Tank Girl!!

28 days later! Yes yes yes. That is one hell of a movie. The way the main character wakes up in a deserted england, walking around in the city all alone. Meeting new people and going on a journey outside of the city.
And of course the zombies.
All combined THAT is the fallout-feeling.
Go watch it.

Also, the 28 WEEKS later is a nice movie too. Not as good as the first, but still worth a watch.

Dawn of the Dead (1978)

Welcome to the SUPER-Super-Duper Mart.

This isn't Fallout Style though.
But still a [censored] awesome movie. :goodjob:
To anyone who has not seen it and easily gets nauseous from gore you have to watch this film.
Been on my top 3 films of all time list for around 10 years.

The Mad Max movies are a necessity, particularly The Road Warrior, which clearly had an influence on the Fallout series. Book of Eli is probably the best recent film that also fits the theme and had the added bonus of being written by a gamer who was undoubtedly influenced by Fallout.

The only film I can think of not already mentioned would be the first Cyborg film with Van Damme. Post-apoc with sci-fi elements.

It's not fallout- style, but i would definatly say Equilibrium is a post apocalyptic movie, just coming from a different angle then most.
Mutant chronicles is also good, and stars Ron Perlman, which is a link to fallout.

Kinda suprised no one mentioned The Postman.

(the movie)
General Bethlehem, and his crew are as close as you can find Ceasar, and his Legion in any movie.
While The Postman himself sorta forms a group resembling the NCR...
Good movie bad ending -_- .

(the book)
Great book nothing like the movie.
It has three faction.
The Legion(esque) Holnists
The Enclave(esque) followers of Cyclops
The average folk...
They have drug induced super-mutants
They have 'raiders'
Heck towards the end of the book he finds a group of people who have rallied under the bear flag of california.

If you are new to both of these do yourself a favor, and watch the movie first. It will in no way spoil the book, and if you read the book first you will just be seeing what it could have been instead of enjoying it for what it was.

Out of that list I'd say, Mad Max and A Boy and His Dog are the closest you'll get.

Kinda suprised no one mentioned The Postman.

I think at least two people mentioned it before. But yeah, The Postman is pretty damn close to the story of New Vegas. (The book is anyway)

Road Warrior for sure, great movie. Mad Max is kind of iffy as far as the "fallout style" goes, in my opinion.

You get the feel that there's something seriously wrong, but it really isn't that post-apocalypticy, for lack of a better word.

Original mad max wasnt a post apocalyptic film the films after mad max were though, but in this vein the original black and white On the beach from a nevil shute novel, it was made in melbourne its basically after a war in the northern hemisphere, and they are watching a large radioactive cloud moving down into the southern hemisphere and their all just waiting to die, war game made in england more its a film made ike a documentary it was banned in the uk and australia in the 60's because of it realism at the time of the effects of nuclear weapons on a populous and how they were going to survive.

The day the earth caught fire also interesting closer to the real apocalyptic effects that they suggest happens after the nuclear war in fallout, Doomsday even though its a virus, it shows how people had to adapt to their enviroment when utilities and communications are cut off and how groups form to survive. But there is only one true survivalist and thats bert gummer a legend in his own right.
