Field Of view

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:24 am

Should the Field of view ( how far into the distance you can see in game ) be as far as you can see ( optional with sliders) obviously this could lead to lag but it could make the environment a lot better, Do you think they should have a very detailed field of view.

I think the mystic slider that says how bad your character's eyesight is, is a good idea.

Maybe the region is so full of mountains that you can never see from one side of the map to the other. Anyway it'll be interesting to see how the new engine handles distant land.

What you're describing is called View Distance.
Field of View is something different entirely.

FOV is view angle, not draw distance.

Hopefully we get at least a 90o FOV.

Keep it the same as Oblivion but at the resolution of Skyrim! I don't want textures popping in and out though. They better work on that!

As far as the eye can see. I think the tech is ready.

I'd love to see the view distance pushed back at least twice as far as Oblivion was. It needs to be scalable to match the system it's on.

A 75°-90° slider for FOV would be nice to.

I have a screaming rig and want to be able to use it to it's fullest.

As far as the eye can see. Always nice to spot places by searching out the distant lights at night time =)

I prefer 120 degrees, myself. It simulates your peripheral vision.

Well without a surround setup you start to get a fish-eye effect, helped in Quake but I hated it, doesn't help with simulating peripherals for me.

True. I prefer 95 degrees at the most for Oblivion and Morrowind.

Still laughing at OP. Field of Vision is NOT what you think it is!

What has the FoV been for past elder scrolls? On view distance, I would like a big one (if you know what I mean) and I would like lots of mountains hindering it, rather than the technical limitations doing so.

I think default is 75 for Morrowind. And it feels like maybe 80 for Oblivion. (don't hold me to that, it's been awhile since I played with vanilla FoV)

It helps to have a large screen.

I want to be able to see about fifty feet ahead. That's about how far my own eyesight goes, and I don't want the game to be too unrealistic.

I've got a 24" monitor, I don't see the effect of going to a larger/smaller screen if it's of the same aspect ratio (16:9).

needs to be a slider that creates a nice fog effect. (not like morrowind, the fog effect needs to keep terrain but remove models and make textures very basic

but the slider needs to also be ready for the future when the average computer is powerfull enough to render every blade of grass for the next two killometres

A slider to change FOV without console commands would be nice.

Field of View is the angle the world is perceived at any given moment in time.

Now what you're talking about is Draw Distance. I'd vote for a slider like most here. Maybe have the default at Oblivion's drawing distance.
