Pre-War Industry

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:47 am

I was thinking about this lately, and Pre-War business certainly didn't care for the consumer, at all. Seriously, look at some of the stuff they made:

- Soda with radioactive isotopes
- Robot servants with flamethrowers, circular saws, plasma weaponry, etc
- Robot guards with miniguns and missile launchers
- Vaults
- Addictive drugs
- Cram

So what does everybody think about these businesses (RobCo, Nuka-Cola, Med-Tek, Vault Tec, etc)?

I find them to be awesome.

They're cool and interesting for the Fallout universe, I'd be absolutely horrified if someone told me everything about them was actually real though. Nuka-cola, by far, is one of my favorite products. The blatant reference of and similarities to coca-cola were awesome for me-cause that's my favorite pop. =] Plus I'm vaguely aware about it's early history/advertisemant history, so the reference had more meaning as a result.

But aside from the products, I don't really know anything about Pre-War Industry. xd

I agree that there awesome (and some are hilarious, "hey lets put make a soft drink that has radioactive isotopes in it, it just turns your pee glowing purple!"). Plus I think it helps to add to the atmosphere of the world by describing some of the craziness of the pre-war world and makes creates a type of satire.

Not only that but I like how occasionally those descriptions of what happened in those pre-war companies can be freaking creepy....I remember in the Pitt, the power plant had a terminal entry describing how workers had tried to fight their protectron "replacements" and had all died horribly (with their skeletons being visible in what looked like an attempt by them to hide in the storeroom).

or how the metro-protectrons engage (lethally) anyone who doesn't have a metro-ticket "tickets please!".

Pre-War industry pretty much did the best with that they had. Robot workers had to be armed to protect themselves against human workers they replaced. Had to replace human workers because the economy went to hell. No oil any more and oil is in everything and used to make everything. Also a very over populated nation. I am not sure if they are funny or bad just doing what they had to do.

I'm conflicted between the first two poll options. On one hand it's hilarious and on the other hand I would hate to live under such wacky, non-PC conditions.

My favorite of the group is the Nuka-Cola Corporation. Dozens of people were maimed or killed testing Nuka-Cola Quantam (you can read about this at the Nuke-Cola headquarters in Fallout 3), and they sent the families of the dead a fruit and cheese package. The Nuka-Cola Clear formula also congratulates the employees on 'minimal loss of life' during the development process

Its a win because its not that far fetched... Heh do a little Coke-a cola research and find out what they pulled out of it in 1903, heck just read up about the company its a riot and sad at the same time.....
