Question 1: is there a limit to how many mods you can have listed in your data files? I have well over 100 (almost 200 I think) but about 1/3 of them are not active. I recently downloaded a few more mods and I know the files weren't corrupted and I know I unpacked them to the right folders, but they won't show up in the data files section on the startup menu, which makes me think I've reached a limit of some kind. If this is the case, is there a way I can easily get rid of those inactive mods? Some of the active ones are clusters like the LGNPC ones, which I now know I can download in one big package to save space. But is there a way to cleanly and easily delete/remove the inactive mods from the list?

Question 2: Some of those mods I downloaded were vurt's west gash, ascadian isles and ashlands overhauls. They look awesome but I wonder 2 things: 1) I don't have MGE. Is it required? If not, will it still look awesome even without MGE? (like will it still look ok without the shaders and such); 2) My laptop's 2 years old with 1.5 dualcore processor and some nvidia GeForce Go upper 6000 something and over 1 gig of ram. This allows me to play with most other texture replacers and such without problems. Will these overhauls give me huge FPS problems with my current setup?

1 - 256 is the upper limit I believe (although I have read some stuff about even un-used esp/esm files in your data folder getting at least scanned by the game at start up which can slow things down when loading - never looked into or worried about it personally).

2 - No you don't have to have MGE. FPS hit on your hardware is hard to say. As Vurts mods are esp based you should be able to try them and if it's unplayable just deselect and stop using them.

Thanks. I found out somehow the files were being misdirected to the wrong folder from winrar even though I clicked everything correctly, so this time I manually put the files where they were supposed to go. Worked like a charm.

It's really late so I'm going to bed, but tomorrow I'll see if vurt's stuff kills my comp. I hope not!
