Main worries about Brink 2

Post » Tue Dec 29, 2009 9:43 pm

sounds just like SD's first game W:ET except it's been going since 2003

btw, having an SDK available pretty much says modding is allowed, and encouraged
and it's not just dedicated servers, but no ranked servers, and that counts more

Both SD and Bethesda are well known for not just encouraging modders, but sometimes even giving them the tools needed to do it.

I my humble opinion. I think this Lequis guy is one of those dorks that's gonna run in circles as fast as he can trying to twitch kill like some do in mw2. I personally don't camp but when I play against others who are faster then me I would use the oppurtunity to stay out of sight and then get the jump on them. If you can't find a way to work around a couple of bad players then you're a sorry excuse for a gamer. Plus the guys at SD are smart enough to put in countermeasures to discourage camping. Like possible having so many spawn locations it's ridiculous or just making sure you spawn out of sight or near team mates. Also why is a dude saying lights are going to be a amazing when he's never played a beta or anything. I look forward to trying out the SMART as well but it's not going to be the center of the game for me. Intelligently designed gameplay, levels, customization, and perks seem to be just as impressive as some parkour. And if you put the light climb and gun aspect as the only thing you look forward to. Then you reduce a brilliant game to "Parkour with guns". Which is lame.

And what I'm trying to say is that each type of weapon is going to have a set of add-ons, which will allow you to modify, to a certain extent, a guns damage, accuracy, recoil, ammo, etc; which will allow players to have a somewhat unique weapon suited to their tastes. Not to mention that SD actually has a lot of variables, more than the stat screen shows, they can alter to make each weapon unique on its own, and I wouldn't worry too much about it. For example, one weapon stat is going to be recoil. The weapon information card will most likely show recoil as a single bar, but in reality, there are a ton of variables. Vertical recoil constant, vertical recoil random, horizontal recoil constant, horizontal recoil random, recoil recovery, and muzzle kick.

I know that. That's not the point. The point is that all the guns, say without any attachments are the same. Like the SMGs all by default have the same damage, accuracy, etc.... And choosing a gun of that category will be purely cosmetic. There won't be any strategy in choosing your gun. The stats are all the same and they operate the same way (without attachments).

For instance.

The galactic SMG has the same stats as the Tampa SMG (WITHOUT attachments).

Where as the two assault rifles operate differently (by default). One is high damage, decent range, low fire rate and decent accuracy, the other is low damage, high fire rate and pretty high accuracy.

I dont know whos idea it was to have purely cosmetic guns but that is a bad idea and will not be in Brink to the best of my knowledge,
It takes off a whole layer of strategy, depth, and feel for certain guns, being able to pick the best gun for the situation is one thing that makes a great player, and since its kind of hard to list all four attachments on a gun where a player can quickly decide if its worth picking up......

The stats for the SMGs are almost exactly the same.

Yeah, I'm hoping that they've all been tweaked since that picture was taken. Needs more variety, more individuality. The other weapon types seem to be good to go though.

SMGs are, by definition, very similar. They're a CQC weapon that prefers high fire rate over bullet power, with slightly less accuracy than rifles due to a shorter barrel. Due to the lightweight, small design, the have manageable recoil. I'm guessing that due to the similarities of the weapons, SD is going to leave them as the last thing to balance, with recoil patterns playing a big part in the individuality of each one. They might have variants with super high fire rates or unusual accuracy for an SMG, but overall its a much more specialized type of weapon than the rest.

I figure http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbIVUgW0t0o&feature= would be a reason not to get brink as well. That is, if the AI turn out this bad. However, I have no doubt Brink will be my fav game yet.

ok seriously, i've only been lurking the forums and reading up on what seems to be my personally most anticipated game since Warhammer Online.... but the video referenced in this post has me laughing so damn hard I felt the need to thank you for lifting my mood.

if you haven't watched the video, it's well worth the 1 minute video.

I am worried that the SMART system will be sort of clunky and that Snipers wont be fully fleshed out properly.

As there thechnically are no snipers, your second worry might be justified.

No scoped rifles at all? I was under the impression that you could add scopes and sights to your weapons. Maybe there are just no long ranged semi auto rifles?

 Alright, (talking slowly) we understand that the name of this tread is confusing. But please, read at least the OP before flaming ok? It's part 2 of worries about Brink. Not worries about Brink's sequel.

Not trying to be mean ninjataostmann, but this is like the 18th time we've had a post like this.

Brink 2? At least wait until the first game...

I'm worried that the SMART won't be fluid, and that Brink won't work on my laptop.

I'm also worried that weapon variety will be mostly down to attachments. I don't want to see people modding SMGs into sniper rifles. At the same time though, I do want to see people making Assault Rifles into snipers.

I'd like to see lots of variety in the customisation system as well in Brink 2, so you can change things like size and possibly even ammo type.

eg: Pistol shotguns, or incendiary ammo, or automatic shotguns. Not in Brink, but possibly in a sequel. However, if they put those things in as default weapons, that's ok.

There are one or two rifles and you can put scopes on them. But they'll most likely still be combat-rifles, no sniper-rifles.
