TrackIR support

Post » Tue Dec 29, 2009 5:00 pm

If you don′t know what is trackIR, it is a device that tracks your head movements to control the view camera in the game... So, you can move, pitch and roll your head, and all this movements will be in your in your game view...
Just search in google or youtube to know a little more about it...

Well, my question: Is there any chance to have a TrackIR support to this game?

In some FPS games we have an amazing experience with TrackIR, and to have this resource in an Elder Scrolls game, is a dream to became true.

I don't think so... kind of pointless imo.

All I need to have a good, immersive experience is my mouse, keybord and the ability to run this game at least on medium settings.

Can't see myself using it, but if it's easy enough to implement (in terms of development resources) then sure, why not? I'm all for the inclusion of stuff that makes a more immersive experience for gamers that want to use the gadgets!

I'd of course be all for it (given there's a realistic first person in general), but it's not going to happen.

Personally, I don't like it. I think it's a bit pointless and doesn't add much to the game though maybe if it's optional for others i'd give it a try.
I can't imagine it'll be included though, it's probably very expensive and the mouse is good enough.

i think the device is around $200... but it of course should be optional and not to change the gameplay, just the immersive in game.

Just watch this demo in the Arma II game, and think about this in some Elderscrolls or Fallout game:

I really don′t have any idea about how hard is to implement a support to techir in the game′s engine... But it would be great!

In arma you can control the characters head independent of the body which make track ir ideal. I don't see what it's use would be in a TES game.

there was kinda no use, in Oblivion fallout and NV your character would just turn in the direction of the camera, so all that could be implemented is moving the head up and down

I don't see Skyrim supporting it. Not saying I wouldn't like it, I just doubt it will be supported. Honestly I think it seems really cool. I could see it having a similar fill to how you could look around while riding a horse in Oblivion. You could use your mouse and keyboard (or joysticks) to walk and turn your body and then you could pivot the actual camera with your head. However, the fact that you still need to lock your eyes on a stationary screen just kills it for me. I think combining this with a head mounted display would be pretty awesome though.

It would have to be completely optional regardless.

If I was in a circular room with a humongoginormous screen that wrapped around the entire circumference of the room, sure. Otherwise, it's going to be a strain looking away from the monitor but keeping my eyes glued to it..
