People always say to install to data files...

Post » Tue Dec 29, 2009 8:40 pm

But I can't find the folder data files.

There's simply no folder.

There are two locations I've looked in, a

C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 3

and a

C:\Users\Cyllid\Documents\My Games\FalloutNV.

Neither of which contain any folder named data files, or data. Or anything of the like.

Any ideas/help? Or if this is the wrong place, anybody willing to point me in the right direction?

There is a "Data" folder. If referring to a folder named Data you are supposed to put files in as the Data files folder has confused you, then you have bigger problems than not being able to find the right folder.

My problem is, there is no data folder.

None, zip, nada.

It's not there. There's a saves folder, in the FalloutNV folder.

That's it.

I've tried reinstalling just fallout. I've uninstalled fallout and steam, and reinstalled. Trying to get the folder to show up, it hasn't worked, I've tried having windows hide hidden folders, show hidden folders, nothing. Hell, I've even tried just making a folder named data, that didn't work, which I didn't expect it to.

Are you on Steam? If so, , C:/Program Files/Steam/Steam Apps/Common/Fallout: New Vegas/data.

Then... uh... you don't have the game installed.

If there's no "data" folder in steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas\, then there's something seriously wrong and I have no clue how your game is running.

You're looking in the wrong place.

You want your steam/steamapps/common/fallout new vegas/data folder.

By default, this is usually C:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas\data.

If you really can't find it, you should have your computer search your hard drives for FalloutNV.esm; Wherever they find it is your data folder.

C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 3

That's the location of the steam version of Fallout 3. If you've got FO3 installed, that should have its own data folder where you'd put FO3 mods. In your steamapps\common folder you should find a new vegas folder, which will have a data folder in it.

/facepalm.

I'm [censored].

It was in my .x86 program files and not just program files.

I just blindly followed where people were saying to look... in program files, and since I was able to find it, I didn't question it at all.

I finally realized it by looking at Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/fallout new vegas/data

And realized mine had /Valve/Steam.

Then I checked the x86... and found it with just /Steam.

Sigh.

Now that I've made an internet sideshow of myself, I'll thank you guys for your bemusemant and replies. And go crawl under a rock and sob for a bit.

That search would've helped me.

I would just always search for Fallout.
