LGNPC bug - The Missing Saren Heir

Post » Tue Dec 29, 2009 6:51 pm

I'm playing my way through the LGNPC Redoran mod. I made the mistake of exploring the Morag Tong guildhall and asked the guildmaster there about Toris Saren. He gave me a quest and a writ to kill him without me ever joining the Morag Tong (I asked him about joining and said 'no thanks'). Toris Saren is a Redoran NPC who I can't kill, and need to talk to to finish a quest.

When I go into his house, he attacks me, as he thinks I'm an assassin. I tried using the console to kill him, turn in the quest, and resurrect him, but he's still hostile.

Is there a way I can remove this quest and make him not hostile? I can't even talk to him because of this quest.

Have you tried using "stopcombat" in the console?

Yeah, he just yells at me that I'm from the Morag Tong and forces goodbye, then attacks me.

edit: for clarification, I never joined the Morag Tong. It isn't listed in the Factions part of my character screen.

Open up the console and type SetJournalIndex "MT_WritSaren" 0 and press enter. Close the console and he should talk to you afterwards.

Using this combined with stopcombat and setdisposition 100 allowed me to talk to him. However, I had to be very quick. He would immediately start attacking me again, and I had only a short window to talk to him. The Morag Tong quest is still in my journal.

Incidentally, I talked to his wife after doing this command and she doesn't attack me any more.

You might also need to type Setfight 30 in the console while his id is in the console window. I have a http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7919 that lets you drop your writ if you want to talk to your target, but it may be overkill for your issue. Still, you're welcomed to it. :)

stopcombat, then setfight 30 worked. Thanks for the help.

Presumably you do not have a saved game you wish to use or you just cannot resist speaking of Toris Saren in the presence of the Morag Tong.

Regretably, Bethesda was in the habit of leaving quest topics unfiltered for faction affiliation so if the player learned the topic it is possible to jumpstart the quest as you have. The Unofficial Morrowind Patch/Morrowind Patch Project has corrected some of these bugs, but this is not one of them (at least not of version 1.6.4).

We will accept the blame for this one since LGNPC Vivec Redoran introduces the topic 'Toris Saren' that triggered the problem. In the next release we will create new entries filtered for Morag Tong members that check if the player is not a member and give some sort of indifferent response. To resolve your present situation you can open the console by pressing the tithe '~' key and type:

SetJournalIndex "MT_WritSaren" 0

This will prevent Toris Saren from thinking you were sent by the Morag Tong to kill him and attacking you. The fix might need to be applied each time you load Morrowind (however it worked for me in testing).

If you have already provoked Toris Saren into combat and you do not have a saved game you can load in addition to resetting the journal index you will need to apply these to console fixes after selecting Toris Saren in the console:

SetFight 30
StopCombat

We apologize for the inconvenience our oversight has resulted.

Hey, if you guys are still cranking out patches, that's good enough for me. Unrelated, but do you have some system in place to report grammar/spelling mistakes? I've noticed a few but didn't make notes of anything.

Our system requires that players take notes ;) , but if you had any you could post them to our release thread in this forum, create a thread in our LGNPC forum, submit a comment from our LGNPC website or send me an email. Most of that contact information is in the readme.
