Fallout 3 Edit searching wrong directory

Post » Tue Dec 29, 2009 6:27 pm

I downloaded FO3Edit today, booted it up (with the file that it needs to run in the same directory), and the background scan tries to find the bethesda folder in the Program Files(x86) (or whatever it's called). This wouldn't be a problem if my directory wasn't: C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3

Can I change the directory that it scans for?

Did you originally install Fallout 3 to C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3?

Edit:
Is FO3Edit in C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3?

Weird, I have Windows 7 with Fallout 3 not in Program Files and have no problem with FO3Edit finding my Data folder.

My only suggestion is to search the registry for "Fallout 3" and see if the install path somehow got set wrong.

In the registry, all fallout files EXCEPT FAllout3 and Fallout Launcher have the value name of: C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated!.exe
The other tow are in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\Fallout3.exe

I can't edit the value, it won't let me. Help?

It won't let you?
Try running regedit as administrator.

Odd. Tried turning off UAC completely? You could turn it back on afterwards.

I gave up and reinstalled FO3 in the new directory. This thread can be locked/deleted.
