Try turning off internet and autosave if your game is freezi

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 6:12 am

If the game is freezing a lot, I recommend turning off the internet (so there's no green indicator) and disabling all the autosave features. This won't work if you just play offline while the internet is still connected. It's a single-player game anyway so there's no reason to play online.

My game used to freeze almost everytime I played but now I haven't had any freezes since. Try this out and post here if it works or not. Kudos to Heresiarch, who posted the solution in this http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1134388-random-freezing/page__gopid__16606939&#entry16606939..

did this help your save files? Mine keep going up in size, from around 5000k to now a 9700 k file size. I don't want to have to dump all my saves and start over from scratch.

My file size goes up like that too, around 7000kb. The game still pauses occasionally when roaming but it hasn't crashed at all in days, which is amazing to me.

Take it from someone with over 100 hours played, nothing works.

Doesn't matter if you played 500 hours, the game starts freezing within 10 hours. Never said this is guaranteed to stop all the freezing and it might not even work for some people, but it helped my game from freezing constantly. Have you tried it?

Yes... still crashes all the time.. PS3 120gb

I unplug the internet cable and turn off all auto saves in settings
and only save manually so I haven't had any save issues... yet..

actually since the patch it now crashes a lot more than it did...

I'm going to delete the game data and try reinstalling without the patch
and see if that makes any difference....

Did it on Fallout 3, worked fine for me, didn't try for NV though, but I managed to finish the game. Won't go back until there is a real patch.
Also try deleting your old save files after each session of play. Rather than have 20 million save files, run with 2-3 then when your done, save on a new file, delete the old ones, and when you come back to the game, start the process again. If you have plenty of saves, well, just always save on a new save. Should help avoid save corruption.
And well the save will always get bigger, it's normal, the longer you play the bigger it gets.
Also try uninstalling and reinstalling the game data. Worked once to make the game smoother for a while.
And if you can't load your game, that uninstalling/reinstalling doesn't work, it's probably that the save data is corrupted. Try reloading another. If not, your probably f*cked.
Try what I said earlier for the save games.

It actually does matter. What I'm saying to you, peon, is that I've been playing this game for a LONG time, playtime-wise, and I've tried everything, including your suggestion, which is not new at all.

I think the only thing that is going to work is when (and if) they patch it and even then it will still be messed up but at least it will be tolerable I hope... not this constant freezing for no reason at all bs I could understand if I played the game for 5+ hours and then it did this but an hour or two is ridiculous, and I don't want to hear any of that "NV is such a big game it does this... blah blah blah" I play Fo3 with all dlc's and Oblivion GOTY and don't get any where near as many freezes...

The game recently froze on me during a loading screen, but I could still quit to the XMB. Fortunately, I still haven't had to hard reset the system like before so I'll be using this method until a patch is released.
